My rant is dedicated to those who love to flood the shout page with the insanely annoying "thank you for the watch"
some go beyond the ricoulous and even thank you for a SINGLE COMMENT.
not only there, but both repliying in your comment, and also on your shouts.
what do you guys think about this?
annoying or Ok?
Im for annoying...

I've never had someone thank me for a comment on my userpage. I do like being thanked, but if they're thanking me for every single little thing it can get annoying. But if you don't want to see them, you can always remove these shouts from your user page.

Some people seem to like it, other's don't. I'd rather not piss people off, so I usually don't shout unless I know the person.

I really don't have a problem with it.

considering im an artwhore with over 1,000 watches, and now imagine every single guy doing 1 or 2 times the "thanks for the.."
now include the "thanks for the fav"
and some super retarded " thanks for the comment..."
I wonder if someone will be low enought to make "thanks for giving my art hits!!" kind of flood>_<

People gripe either way, so whatever ^^
If you don't thank watches, some people get offended, if you do thank watches, some people get annoyed. Me, I just figure 'hey, they're not trying to offend OR annoy me, so why should I be either?'

I see what ya mean. I always enjoy getting those "thanks for the watch" shouts, ect, ect.
But the "Thank you for the 'thank you for the watch'" really gets my goat.

We don't owe them. That's why I'm saying if someone doesn't say thank you, people shouldn't get offended because they weren't trying to offend anyone. But at the same time, if someone DOES say thank you, they don't owe you, they didn't have to say thank you, but they did anyway just to show their appreciation. So yeah, it might be annoying, but ya should try not to be TOO annoyed by it since they weren't trying to annoy you. They were being appreciative. ^^

Agreed. The practice is a little bit strange, but that doesn't mean it should stop.
However, it is poor form to add someone to your watch list only because they added you to theirs. (Not because you like their work; just because they've taken a passing fancy to some of your pieces.) The thank you should be enough; otherwise, you either get flooded with slightly to ridiculously bad art drawn by said user, or you get an output of zero (which the two poor, poor saps who added me to their watch list are getting. I don't actually draw anything, so when I sent them a thank-you shout, I added onto the bottom warning them that they may have made some sort of mistake). Citizens of FA: Please stop doing this.
EDIT: I see there has already been a whole thread (http://www.furaffinityforums.net/showthread.php?tid=3063) posted some time ago in here that essentially says the same thing as the paragraph above. My bad.

I try to thank people when they leave -quality- comments, like thoughtful ones, or constructive critiques, because I do honestly appreciate those kinds of comments. I won't go thank someone just for saying "kool pic" or something, though.

It's nice when people noticed you watched them. I'm also amused when people are creative with the shout.

Maybe some people just like being polite I myself like it if I'm thanked for watching someone or faving their art, but then I dont get many shouts and I dont watch lots.
If someone favs one of my pics I'll thank them if its the first time or I havn't thanked them for a while
Dosn't bother me either way

I generally thank people who watch me, but I don't shout about faves or comments. I also don't expect any replies from the people I watch, fave or comment (after all, many of the better / more popular artists are probably drowning in all three!), but if they do, it's nice.

It's a nice gesture. It shows to me at least that the person you watched takes time out of their day to say a quick thank you.
Aren't we going a bit far when we turn this into a rant? I mean no offense, but that seems a little cynical to me.

Leave a thank you once, and that's it. If the same person favorites something down the line I don't feel it necessary to keep it going, y'know?

try deleting 20-30 a day .
I did that 3 months straight
until I reached an stable 500 watches
most of the people came with the same identic repetitive "thanks for the.."
there were even ones I hated a lot.. the infamous "thanks for the comment.."
besides I find it more eaiser, nicer & stuff by making ajournal thanking everyone for their watches. than flood their goodarn pages with the "thanks for the..."

agree there, some people just keep doing this for every thing you did to them
if you faved 3 times, at diferent days, this person will give you 3 "thanks for the fav" plus for the watch.. bleh.

Well watch less people, I mean there is a browse function on the site. If you're getting that many return comments for a watch, it means you're watching what 20-30 people a day and leaving comments for that many?
I don't understand why people complain when it is a 2 sided issue, you're getting thanked for a watch because you decided to watch them. o.O;;
Also, it's a shoutbox I think it implies it will already be inane. It's not like you can have an intelligent post on there or a thoughtful reply most of the time, and then if you did you might get cut off because of the character limited, so once again it goes back to being inane.
I dunno, at least the people thanking you for something is a lot more considerate than chain letter posts people like to make. In this case one is thanking you for something you did, even if you find it inane, the other thinks they're being cool by spreading some meme around not everyone cares about :P and no consideration for who it is.
I still hate comments like that. No point in it.

that is going way too far! we should make a rule that thanking someone on their userpage is illegal, and all violaters will be stoned to death!! (and I don't mean stoned as in pot smoking, for anyone wondering)

(Yeah, I'm sure it would be easy enough to code/display "no thx" & "no critique" toggles, but does that mean people will get up-tight if/when those are overlooked/ignored?)

Well I guess what else can you really put in a shoutbox, other than the usual? :P Not that I don't mind a turning shoutbox off option too ;)
Well as for critiques that's a whole nother can of worms, a critique is to tell you *why* you like and key words here and/or dislike a piece. So someone giving a positive critique is going to be overlooked, versus someone giving one viewed as negative x.x
