View Full Version : Why do people hate Sonic Style?

Everyone that takes request doesn't want to draw this style anymore.

Why? It makes my characters instantly hated.

I guess it's something with Sonic characters being drawn is pretty easy* to do, and didn't really show the unquieness' of artist's skills, I don't really know as I like most of em. *shrug* Although, I'd like to see people use different style so they can be unquie in their work, I still like Sonic style, just I don't really want to draw my characters in that way. ^^; *

*Yeah, I can't draw the style just yet, but still, they might be easy to do..not like I haven't tried, mine ends up quite horribly. <.<

Asking people to draw in another style is a hard sell, because you're sort of telling them that their own style isn't good enough.

I'm sure it's got nothing to do with your tastes in style.

How everyone on Request won't draw my character and the reason they said is because they're Sonic Style, but they're no longer Sonic Characters.

But I asked two people and they said, "They don't draw Sonic-like characters".

I need them to remain in that style to be in the War of the War Tools and also I hate realistic furries because RPs frown on them.

From myself and other posters:

You're sort of telling them that their own style isn't good enough.

Also: maybe they like realism.

Rouge2

But I have to have they always been Sonic Style, but they're not Sonic Characters.

War of the War Tools would be boring with only one character in the comic in total.

how many times must you be told that?

I just got your request hunny. I'm not going to say that I don't like sonic style whatso ever. I grew up with Sonic I just was never able to draw it. I will agree with most other people on this thread that most people first started drawing in the sonic style but it grew old and moved on. I won't discourage you to not give up but just give a try to ask people how THEY would draw your characters in their own style so you can get a good idea of what you really want even if your characters are no longer sonic characters.

That's the thing about art is seeing the different types of styles and there is nothing wrong with realism. I have pictures of sonic, tails and knuckles in a realistic manner and I love it because it was out of the box if you want to put it that way.

Just give it a try and maybe you'll see something you like ok?

I think that most people don't Hate the sonic style. I Do think however most people are slightly put off by it becuase it is way overdone.

When I Was sketching in the 4th grade sonic was just getting popular over here.... archie comics had just started up the sonic comics, and the first cartoon was showing.

When I was in 4th grade I could mimic the style nearly perfectly, and that says allot to the difficulty of the style, concidering that I was still drawing 4 legged horses with all of the legs looking like they were all on one side at that point.

To bring up another point, becuase the sonic Style is so overused, people will refuse to draw it even if its something they CAN do. Its not becuase they Can't do it, its becuase there are 8 million other people out there who can, and these people are trying to break off and make a style for themselfs

You act insulted that people refuse to draw in the sonic style, but at the same time, any time you ask, and someone refuses its becuase you have offended them by not allowing them to streatch their wings and use their own style to put a spin on your characters.

Uniqueness is what keeps this fandom alive, so asking a person not to be unique with their drawings is like telling someone they can't be jewish becuase it's not what "You" Want...

How about branching out a little. Just becuase your characters are in the sonic style most of the time doesn't mean that they have to be in the style all the time... if someone refuses to draw your characters in the sonic style, then let them draw it in theirs.... sometimes you wind up with some REALLY awsome stuff.

Its nice to set up a little "Place" Where you are comfortable with your characters. But sometimes branching out can really be worth while.

Have you ever tried asking an artist who already draws sonic-style? Or are you so infamous none of them will draw for you?

Also, I went to high school with a girl whose hands shook constantly, but she could still draw pretty well. I mean, it was somewhere between inpressive and amazing. So shakey hands can't always be an excuse.

Myabe it's because you demand it and not /ask/ for it?

and also I hate realistic furries because RPs frown on them.

I think Sonic style is, personally, very immature and not difficult at all. A lot of people do the style, but there's no complexity to it... and in the end it doesn't make for unique images, just images that look like they have been churned out over and over.

Animation style is a production style. It doesn't have a lot of depth. Some artists can make it work, but the're few and far inbetween.

Why not just let people draw your characters in their own style? Styles aren't limited to "Sonic" and "Realism", you know.

That's sort of the magic of art. Everybody has their own style. I think for a lot of people, too, Sonic style is somebody else's... so you have all these artists trying to mimic a certain style that's not their own.

Could be reason a lot of people don't like it as well.

I always thought people worried far too much about labelling styles, personally. I don't even know what I would begin to label my style as, and I'm just not interested in doing so.

So yeah, I agree.

How many times do I have to say.

HANDS..........SHAKES...........

I hate to say it, but even people with hand shakes can draw. My hands shake much to my own frusteration on MSN chats.

I have given the Sonic style a shot before and to be frank I hated it. I'm not one to talk about anatomy skills, but seriously the whole style flatuates in the face of anatomy.

You say that your characters are not Sonic characters... but from what I see in your gallery they still are done in the Sonic style to my understanding of it.

Even with a hint of Sonic styling some people will instantly dislike it.

I will admit that some people will do it really really well, but I say you should go for some orginal styling or at least something that doesn't hint at the Sonic style at all if you want to be taken seriously in the artistic community.

I guess I somehow think of that way, as well. Even though I like Sonic's art, I would like to see people do their own art - after all, every artist has different style and it reflects how people do them, and that is why I admire art (well mainly furry lol), there's always different art styles to enjoy.

Then again, what do I know? I'm just some novice artist..xD I guess I perfer drawing in my own style, even though it is poor at the moment, I felt like it was my "art", when copying other style I'd feel "meh" then ruin the art. Somehow, even if my art style ends up horribly, I still feel it was worth my time because it was my own art style - and I would like to see people using their own art style because it makes for excellent variety ^_^

I remember reading about a guy on NASCAR.com that was paralyzed and could only move his arms, and not his fingers, and this guy could draw stock cars with AMAZING realism!!! I mean, he could put many professionals to shame! He put the pencil between his index and middle finger and move his arm along.

so nothing is impossible.

D'oh, I forgot something..

Anyway, shaking hands? I have them, but it's not stopping me to start drawing. Again, yes, my work isn't too good, but eventually you improve after a while, and shaking hands shouldn't matter much - as long as you enjoy it, all I can say just grab a paper and pen, and start drawing. Keep practicing. Eventually you'll be better at it someday than you thought.

Sorry for another post, but I just want to point out I have shaky hands (ever since I was kid) and it's not stoppin' me drawing - something I enjoy to do. ^-^

Trackball + hands shaking = Ability to do art (Moreso than with a regular mouse)

People who hate Sonic style are usually the same reasons they hate many other different and popular styles.

However, you were just outright rude and said "this person doesn't draw sonic style" like it was your call to make when the person was offering free artwork.

I have drawn and sometimes still draw Sonic style, but quite frankly your attitude sucks so why should I ever do any favors for you?
