I've been trying to fix up my thumbnail/submission size and am encountering some issues. Submission can be found here:

Originally my submission was 200x219 pixels, I was happy with it. But upon posting to FA it somehow expanded in size and became blurry. I re-uploaded the image to be 400x434 pixels, and FA seemed to like that better but I don't. Both images were .jpg Is it possible to upload my submission in its tinier state without distortion? Thanks.

Help on this issue is appreciated.

Did you try changing the dpi setting? perhaps it was set to something too low and was forcing the picture to display bigger than you intended.

If you're using Photoshop, you will specifically need to use the "Save for Web..." command.

I tried the 'save for web' option and once again I face the same problem. The image is the right size, but it's "full view" size is blown up and distorted - why? And the thumbnail is blurry and demented too :(

I seem to have temporarily fixed the issue by adding a 400px white space around my picture. It no longer distorts...but it looks stupid. Maybe a 200px thumbnail/submission makes FA fail? Can anyone else confirm this?

Oh, I think I see what you're getting at.

If a submission to FA is small enough, FA will actually create thumbnails larger than the original image. This is unfortunately normal behavior, but the original file is still available at its original size when you full-view.

Thanks! Is there any way to find out the smallest upload size so that no longer happens to me?

I think it's in the neighborhood of 300~400 pixels....

Thanks :) I'll do some trouble shooting on the subject.

Just locate any large submission and evaluate the size of the preview image displayed. I think it's 300, actually.

FA created two derivative images off the image you are submitting: a thumbnail and a "halfview"

max. thumbnail box dimension is "120"
max. halfview box dimension is "300"

Uploaded image is being resampled to fit the box size limits.
Unfortunately FA is not smart enough to detect that the image uploaded may be smaller then the box size, which results is upscaling rather then downscaling.
