The problem with modern politicians is the ones who have any chance of getting in effectively agree on all the important issues and bicker on the less important ones that separate voters. If you're American, see if You can vote for anyone who will actually bring the troops home. The only one is Ron Paul and he's not getting in, simply because the media don't want him in, either ignoring him or stating he won't win repeatedly. In the UK we have a trust crisis, because both the Conservatives and Lib Dems pulled a 180 on issues they campaigned on.

The ragged end of the war can take care of itself for the time being - our economy keeps going up and down like a bipolar woman on her period. Since Ron Paul is out of the running, there's no sense in voting for him.

Ron Paul is probably the best candidate but he's a Liberitarean. He's liberal on social issues but conservative on fiscal issues. Since he's not either Republican or a Democrat, like ADF said, the media won't support him and he'll fail. America also has trust issues. Both parties will say one thing, move to the next state, then say another to get the majority in that state.

Not saying people should, only those they can vote for are likely to just stick to the course. There is no real choices in the end, anyone with a chance of winning is unlikely to change anything. Anyone who may do things differently get stamped out of the race by the media.

@Onnes - Social Security and Medicare are both going to fail in a decade or two. When both were implemented, the average life span was less than it is now, so the government wasn't afraid of having them as it was easily supported with the income tax. Now, especially with the Baby Boomers and less jobs, there's 100% no way to support every recipient. Both are extremely popular. That's the problem. They need to be cut ASAP. I don't want to pay for people who are already well off (if you make it to that age, you must be doing something right.)

Which legitimizes the public spectical of the media clearly doing everything in their power to stop a candidate? Ron Paul was just an example, I'm not advocating his views, just pointing out choices are set up to be irrelevant.
