If, somehow, the entire human race was replaced with Anthropomorphic animals, it could work. All awkward social interactions would be removed and there wouldn't be people trying to experiment on you as the entire race was like that. And if people weren't slutfoxes with purple fur and three tails, then it would be very possible to reproduce with members of your own species. It could, theoretically, work. However, there are no chances that the world will turn into this overnight, therefore rendering this fantasy a... fantasy.

Right, this is true. Like that tribe of indigenous people being introduced to a mirror for the first time. They didn't understand the reflection because they didn't understand mirrors, which doesn't make them less human. They had just never seen one before. Same is true for animals, ones that have seen a mirror before may be more inclined to ignore it or realize it's not another animal, which isn't necessarily an indication of awareness but more likely a previous knowledge and acceptance of mirrors.

It's hard to measure self awareness now that I think about it...

It doesn't work with all animals but I do believe the dot thing works. Scientists put a dot on the animal's head and let them look in a mirror, if the animal tries to remove it from the reflection, they aren't self aware (if we use reflection as the basis for that definition)
It doesn't work for all animals, but some can be used to a mirror and fail the test. Babies do anyway. Young elephants don't tend to pass until they develop a bit, same with dogs or cats.
I assume for the test they let the animal get acclimated to the mirror so they don't just go "holy shit, what is that?" in their animal way.

I saw a clip from a dot-mirror test. The crows would carefully remove every dot from their chest,
then get mad because they couldn't remove the dots from their heads. Pretty interesting stuff.

As one of those people, I would not want to be an anthro. Moonfall is a feral fox, and a completely ordinary fox, except for her markings. She is just a fox. No magic. No powers. She eats mice and digs in the dirt like other normal, wild foxes. The only slight abnormality is she's somewhat aggressive (primarily out of fear), and has a very large tail. Big whoop- she's a FOX. Not an anthro, even if I draw her that way.

Yes, I still would love to be the form she shows. I would accept that in an instant. It would be a lot of work to learn to be a normal fox in that situation but I still would do it.
