Custom Thumbnails wiped?

With the changes to the thumbnail system, it appears that all custom thumbnails have been cleared and new ones generated from the actual submission.

Are there plans to have these thumbnails restored, or is it going to be on the gallery owner to go through and manually apply a new thumbnail image to these submissions (an onerous task for some people, who have exceedingly large galleries and use customized thumbnails on nearly ALL of their pieces).

I know there are a lot of users who tag their images via the thumbnail, warning people of what the image contains without showing the full picture (e.g. vore, gore, tentacles, "goo stuff," rape, etc.)

I use the custom thumbnail on my submissions only rarely, but I do appreciate when an artist uses it to denote a picture that might be too extreme for my tastes and I know to avoid viewing that image, whereas a thumbnail is dense and potentially misleading.

So here's the situation... Custom thumbnails still work on userpages. However, custom thumbnails do not work anywhere else! User galleries, the front page "new submissions" section, presumably watch lists... Custom thumbnails no longer work on any of these pages. Is there any reason for this other than "oops, you bwoke it"? As the original poster said, some people use thumbnails to hide content as a courtesy to other users who may be casually browsing the site and not want to see a tiny-sized picture of a hermaphrodite with 6 tits jamming a hyper-sized penis into the tailpipe of a two-headed, overly-muscular squirrel-taur who also has six breasts which are all lactating. ... presumably lactating. But maybe not even something that extreme.
The most extreme thing I have in my guest art gallery is my character being assaulted by a slime beast, but I still like to use custom thumbnails on that account as a courtesy to anyone who happens to see me upload something on the front page, or anyone who casually browses through my gallery, and isn't prepared to see the more mature side of Jessica U. Ingmann. (Yeah, I know. This is FurAffinity we're talking about. Not my point. :P)

Please either fix this if it's a bug, or bring it back if it's an intentional feature. The thumbnail system can be abused on days like yesterday, but all and all, it's more beneficial than detrimental to a majority of people.

As the Admins have said before, it's a small bug. Things will be fixed when the thumbnails are finished being changed. ( It'll be about a week or so ). They will work soon enough

While I'm sure that's true, I haven't seen any indication of that particular issue.

This is a good thing. Custom thumbnails defeat the use of having thumbnails at all. (e.g. a gallery comprised of "warning! yiff" and/or icons of the character's heads/eyes/feet, anything BUT the actual pic) At least IB lets you disable them..

i really hate what has been done to the homepage of FA and even the profiles are screwed up. everything is running over/covering up other things. it has not made anything better.the submission files should have remained the way they were.now it shows the actul upload but makes everything below it cluttered and all over the place :/ im sad to say id quit if this isnt changed back

For thumbnails requested at sizes below or equal to 120px the 'thumbnail' path is used - otherwise the original image path. This is why userpages show custom thumbnails and every other place doesn't.

Yikes, I'm going to guess that upto just before the new thumbnail update that the code hadn't really been tampered with.
So we're looking at some 6 year old code which is outdated, and in need of a re-write to regain custom thumbnails? Ok.

As for suggestions, Wandering_Smoke in the "Site broken" thread here asked whether or not custom thumbs could be turned off.

Well since FA (to my knowledge) doesn't have such a feature, would it be too difficult to implement that feature into the new system?

The custom thumbnails seem to be working on the userpage itself, aren't they working in the gallery etc. because of the new thumbnail size?

I'd love to see this issue fixed soon, currently there is so much material that I'd rather not see floating around, that I'm hesitant to make full use of FA.

So what you're saying is:

-FA currently does not track if a custom thumbnail is used.
-FA wants it to track if a custom thumbnail is used.
-This is being called a "problem with the new thumbnail server" even though it's really an issue with the code.

-Meanwhile, the entire site has to deal with large thumbnails of Unwanted Fetish Art.

I just registered on Fur Affinity Forums so I could comment on this. This is possibly not quite as dire an issue as the fact that people's brains are being scorched by things they really don't want to see, but custom thumbnails being wiped is hurting my audience size, big time. I upload a lot of stuff that I'm pretty sure deserves warning thumbnails, and ever since the update, my average view count for submissions has dropped drastically.

I uploaded a journal about it here. The statistics in it are somewhat out of date now but they definitely still apply. My most recent submission to FA has twenty faves as of this post. Before the update, I'd expect that to come with about 500 views or so, but instead, the submission has 150.

Even in spite of this, I wasn't going to bring it up here, but then I saw that I wasn't the only one having this problem, and my friends were posting journals of a similar nature. Seriously, I love you guys, but these numbers aren't good.

I think there is a simple explanation to this. Previously when users looked at your page if they wanted to see what a censored submission looked like, they had to click it because it was hidden by the thumbnail. Now with the images in plain sight, they don't need to click to see if it's something they want to look at. I'm guessing that views were previously inflated by those who just wanted to see what was there, and now you are seeing more accurate numbers.

If someone posts an image with a thumbnail saying, "Extreme Gelphatoganting!" I'll probably click it just to find out what the term meant.

I know I personally used to click on thumbnail-censored art a lot when I saw it out of curiosity, especially when the thumbnail text was vague like, "WARNING!" Now that there are no more thumbnails in galleries and browsing I can clearly see what each picture is, and now only click on things I want to see in more detail.

I'm kind of curious what gelphatoganting would actually consist of. :P Uh... It's entirely possible. I honestly don't know. The disparity in views is so vast that I'm inclined to believe that even if they want to look at it, they're only going to click on it if they want to see it in full size for some reason, or to fave/comment/whatever.

Either way, it doesn't seem to be much of a positive change. I don't really know what the removal of custom thumbnails was supposed to accomplish, because the only things I've seen it do are things I'd rather not have happening.

personally i think you should have made it a priority to fix the custom thumbnails but thats just my opinion...
