cooling question, little worried

I got an H80 on my processor, with two fans in a push-pull config, used the thermal compound that was pre-applied on there, and the unit is on medium setting.
With all that out of the way, is it normal for the processor temps to go from 30 centigrade to 40-ish instantly when launching prime95? after 10 minutes it'll slowly rise to 50 then stay there while the fan rpm's start to rise.

50'C is pretty good, actually. Especially as Prime 95 tends to produce more heat than most 'practical' examples of full CPU load would accomlish.

The CPU is thrown from 1.6ghz to 3.4ghz, goes from zero load to full load, in less than a millisecond. Yeah, the rise is pretty typical.

My computer is a frigging laptop with an i7 which can get up to 75 Centigrade, and the cooling port gets hot enough to burn my hand on. You have absolutely no worries compared to me.

50 isn't awful. How old is the thermal compound?

If you were hitting any dangerous temperatures your PC would just shut itself down anyways. You're good.

Agreed. If you can bench your processor for about an hour on full then you will never have to worry. Especially at temps of 50C, when something like 75C is starting​ to push it.

Not entirely sure how old it is, since it's a pre-applied pad of it, but I've had it for close to 2 months now.

Idle temp of 30C with an H80 is pretty much spot on. If it bothers you that much, you can go and grab a tube of Arctic Silver 5 and use that instead of the pre-applied thermal compound.
