I can't blame people for not knowing things, especially things that aren't relevant to them at all.

as someone whos been interested in the titanic disaster and wreck since befor i knew about the movie at all (mind you this was the first time around, not the re-release) I'm more thrilled than anything baout all the documentarys and such with shots of the wreck.
I guess for me its most exciting to just, see something thats been down there for 100 years and we can actually get down there to film it, and with extrememly good cameras with modern 2012 technology.
As for the movie, i'll probabily go see it in theaters. when i saw it i was young and it was on a 12 inch tv screen with a built in VCR. lol. i guess now that i'm older i can appreciate it for for both the telling of the story and for the technology of both the ship and the film.

What is really interesting is to me is that the whole three Olympic class ships (Titanic was the largest of the triplets - Britannic, Olympic, and herself) almost seem to have had a curse of bad luck. We all know of Titanic, and Britannic hit a seamine during her use as a hospital ship in WW1 in 1916 and sank with 30 men. Olympic was successful but she saw many accidents, here is a list: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/RMS_Olympic#History

Weird people are like...sprinkles on vanilla ice cream. They are random, bright, and out of place. However, without them, the world would be bland and boring. So embrace your weirdness!

That's all I got. Other than they found out another theory of how the Titanic sunk.

Fixed. (It's a bit hard for an ocean liner to hit a landmine...)

What's even more amazing is the story of Violet Jessop, who depending upon your point of view was either the luckiest or unluckiest White Star Lines employee in the history of the company. Not only did she work on Olympic at the time it collided with a Royal Navy cruiser in 1911, she worked on Titanic and survived the sinking, then went to work on Brittanic and survived that sinking as well...

She had also made sure to grab her toothbrush before leaving her cabin on the Britannic, saying later that it was the one thing she missed most immediately, following the sinking of the Titanic.

You never know when something becomes relevant, especially if it concerns general knowledge.

It's not surprising that people think the Titanic was fictional- considering movie adaptations have been somewhat less than accurate.

I agree, school systems this days are about as good as two dog shits mixed with orange juice.

Has anyone seen those independently made cartoon movies, that got based off the original disney version? which was already a complete lie. And its kind of relevant to this forum, because at least one of them was your classic talking mouses.
I might be able to find a link...
But what it said pretty much was that hundreds of people didn't die, and everyone made it out alive....sigh

Its better to acknowledge tragedy, even when dealing with a young audience, then to say something completely different happened because then the next generation may actually believe that was how it happened.

I'm not surprised that a lot of people think it was made up for the film, even if there are, like, 100 different films about it.

I mean, a ship that's called "unsinkable" goes off and sinks on her maiden voyage because of pride and a false sense of security?

She must've been getting a little tired of surviving boat wrecks at that point.

The company never made that claim, it was one newspaper. Funny how stuff like that gets made a huge deal out of. At least the same mistake wasn't made with the memorial cruise.

My Grandma came over from Austria on the R.M.S. Queen Mary.

It looks very similar to the Titanic but isn't one of the sister ships

I'm thinking if they had just hit the iceberg head on, they would've had a better chance of survival until they could've been rescued.

They would've, but the people sleeping in the forward areas of the ship would've been injured or killed. If a first officer of a ship thinks there's a reasonable chance of avoiding a collision with an iceberg, then is it responsible to instead ram the ship head-on?

I think that they thought there wasn't enough time to make an informed decision and merely just had to choose.

Just a speculation. I wouldn't have done it myself, personally.

EDIT: Actually no, 1500 people wouldn't have died if that had happened now that I think about it. Just leaves a dilemma is all: tragedy now and rescue later, or rescue now and slow tragedy later?
