    Default "Streaming now" submissions?

Lately I've noticed more and more of the artists I'm watching will repost a little sketch whenever they stream, usually titled "STREAMING NOW" and with those words written on it somewhere, and will delete the image after they stream, only to re-use it next time. I find this practice quite annoying, and was just wanting to throw that out there. I don't so much mind journals advertising streams being used similarly, but this whole "Streaming now" submissions thing does grind my gears a bit, and personally, I'd like to see the rules change to eliminate it.

Just throwing my thoughts out there, anyone else feel similar?

While it occasionally clutters up the main page from time to time, I really don't think that it's really a bad thing. Many artists want as many people watching their streams as possible, so that they can show off their works, and possibly grow a small fan base behind them. By posting a photo on FA, they are letting people know that they do exist, and are currently streaming. If they were to post it to a journal, only their watchers would know immediately that a stream was in progress, and therefore wouldn't increase the number fans that a person has.

I agree that the "Streaming Now" submissions are a little annoying, but there's not really a better way to go about doing so. Perhaps a system that allows people that are streaming to submit a thumbnail that will go on the front page, just in a different section from typical submissions would work.

I side with the viewpoint that "streaming now" notices should be limited to journals. Really, does it make THAT much of a difference?

Really, who gives a crap? If you don't want to look at them, you only have to look at the thumbnail for 2 seconds before dismissing its existence and moving on with life whatever you're doing. I've never understood why people get so worked up over a passive event, as if someone had figured out a way to have a dick come out of their screen and poke them in the eye to annoy them.

Well, yes. In the first place, many people use streaming services to advertise and show off their practices to new, potential watchers; and secondly, journals are often missed or ignored by watchers; and thirdly, journals only ever appear to watchers the artists already have. It makes a pretty significant difference to viewer numbers.

I don't really think irritation is a sufficient warrant to call for a ban when a ban would have so few, and very indirect and weak, benefits, yet several shortcomings.

These actually really do rustle my jimmies.
If people don't care enough about your stream to check journals/whatever, just drop it, jesus.
Or at least delete the submission after it closes. I unwatched some dude because he streamed daily and I was so fuckin' sick of those goddamn submissions- but that's just me.

I disagree, ive had 7 watches from one stream via a submission, as i have had NONE via journal. I can get up to 16 people via submission and MAYBE one via journal. 90 precent of people delete the submission once done so the one person who doesnt shoudnt ruin it for the rest of us

Indeed. There are artists that I have become an avid watcher of, only because I chanced upon their stream advertisements one day. If it wasn't for those, I probably still wouldn't even know about them. Besides, they usually do delete their advert after it's done.

There are some fantastic artists out there, and even more fantastic people to chat with. Without the knowledge of these streams existing outside of our typical social circles, it becomes very difficult to make new friends or gain new commissioners in the fandom.

I see both sides of the argument honestly.

To get new viewers you have to submit something, and getting watchers who chanced upon a submission is a good thing.

However, the problem isn't someone who is browsing and what FA needs to fix imo because it's obnoxious to people who have already watched you

People who are on your list not only get the notification when you post, but someone gets the notification when you delete.

It's really obnoxious to fill someone's inbox with those kinds of notices.
The deletion notices look like someone is either

    1. An idiot who doesn't know how to submit something
    2. Butthurt
    3. Possible a combination of 1 and 2.

Well are you being facetious? Because the answer is quite honestly YES. It's a selfish action. It's more to do with the argument if the action itself is harmful. Getting the word out or promotions can be a good thing, but remember it can be a fine line as people who could be giving you coupons or deals to good stuff, to crap you don't want like some religious flyers.

Well isn't it selfish to want people to notice your art? It's one thing to share it. It's another to get obsessed with watches imo.

I dont really as mind as far as watches go, I mean they are nice but its kinda disheartening to have something you want to share and no one to show. Also I end up giving out freebies in my streams- as rare as my streams are. I have found that this is one way to practice on different characters as well as reach out to the community and gain new friends or fellow artist to help grow with. Nyban is awesome, they have that stream thing for events.

It's understandable to a degree but a lot of this watch obsession and the people bitching and complaining about who is getting watches, how to get watches sucked a lot of the fun about sharing artwork in the first place.

Usually going to new communities are fun when there are good directives. Before Nyban, there were things like YNA with the purpose of critiques. I remember when you had sites for banner exchange and such as well.

I do agree though FA needs a better way to announce artists that are streaming their work. My suggestion is to create a category similar to how Visual Stories and Music are Broken up and you have

    Streams.
Then you have a thing for ETA and similar to suspension timers, it will delete out.

Ex. You submit a thumb or you can have something like a "Profile ID" for streaming, so you don't have to create a new one each time.

Similar to Scraps you can check off whether or not you want to watch an artist who submits to the Stream Category.

When you make a stream post, you put in an ETA like 3hrs. Then it will submit to the front page under that category. After 3 hours the item deletes out. I'd put a max value of 6 hours for a streaming submission for it to delete out of the system.

Then now when people browse they can browse by the stream category.

grand idea but will it ever be put in? The code has been proven that the system now is holes with holes put together with tape and spit. I remember when FA was suppose to have that summer update that looked awesome. What ever happened to it?

The problem is Fa seems to have a phobia when it comes to adding new coders and they desperately need a entire team of coders instead of just four people. So the most likely answer is "don't count on it".

The same thing that happened to half-life 2 episode 3.

You're right, it's really annoying. If it were not for the fact that FA gets flooded with enough poor art to drown out just about anything decent within the site, perhaps there would be/would have been more action taken against more complaints about this problem.

The same thing that happened to half-life 2 episode 3.
Except Steam needs qualified and experienced coders when FA is trying to grab anyone who can write an HTML page that doesn't produce errors.

Okay, I guess the only difference it makes is that a picture submission shows up on the main page for . . . all of five seconds. The people who are watching you receive a notice either way.

IIRC, they are only present for comments, shouts, and the like.

For journals and submissions, they have been removed.

Thats wierd, cause I'm not. In the submission box I no longer see it, it does how ever still linger in favorites and comment notification. So the only reason I should be seeing them is if I fav or comment on something that later gets deleted.

I did a test a long time ago and thought this was a glitch using my own accounts which I have watching each other.
When I made a journal on one account, then after 10 minutes delete it, I switched to my other accounts. The journal notification was never there, I didnt get the "journal Was deleted by user" of t he journal I made then deleted on my other accounts. I did another test using a submission...same thing happened I never saw the Submission was deleted by user" of the submission test I did on my other accounts.

In other words its quite possible that FA DID do work towards that annoying notification, thing is it only works if you DIDNT see the submission or journal.
I was thinking of doing more test on such thing again today as I still think its a glitch.
