I find Obama to be very refreshing. I have my own problems with him but in his entirety he has been a good president so far.

The only problems I have with him are mostly catch-22s or at least from my perspective they appear to be. Such as the wars, the drone bombings, the increase in security, the technical lowering of civil rights through such legislation.

Though politics in relation to the furry fandom: why are right wing furries so apt to spout out their political beliefs? These confurvatives are something that will never cease to amaze me. Whether it be drawing comics about libertarian anthro rabbits in space or just drawing sexy lady furs while spouting off right wing talking points in another comic.

Semantics doesn't change the fact that a "fine" levied by government is simply a "tax" under another name. Another means of getting money out of The People. Without having to raise "taxes". Clever, isn't it? It's a "known fact" that the best way to raise taxes is to simply call it a fee... it's how government makes its money. If The People refuse to allow higher taxes... if higher taxes means political suicide... then politicians will find some way to raise taxes by raising fees/fines. Either way, more money in their pockets.

Meanwhile, us in the other OECD countries with proper public-funded healthcare systems look at the industrial-sized clusterfuck of both the current and "reformed" private-sector US healthcare system (exemplified by the above "Is a tax!" / "Isn't a tax!" ping-pong) and go "WTF?!?"

There's a good reason that when healthcare reforms are touted in countries like the UK, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, France, Germany et al that the US model is held up as the one to avoid...

I find it interesting that Roose seems to be avoiding:
1) The US Democrats made a proposal early in Obama's presidency to drastically cut SS, reduce the budget, and put some of the saved money into a more effective program (to help boost "Obamacare"). The proposal was hilariously shot down by Republicans, who then tried to pull a less effective version of the same thing later (Less effective insofar as instead of putting the money in an alternative, their proposal was just to cut the money out and hope it works), who then bitched via radio and TV when Democrats said no (with the audacity to say it was Democrats standing against Healthcare Reform, when what they meant was "Healthcare slash").

2) It's not the Democratic party that's purposefully doing everything in its power to make sure "Obamacare" is a flop, going so far as to purposefully remove funding from it with no alternative offered so as to make it dead in the water and what money couldn't be taken out be wasted in the endeavor.

3) That Obama's basic healthcare reforms outside "Obamacare" are still (overall) better than what we had before.

Roose reminds me of the guy I saw outside Uni last week toting a sign of how Obama's a puppet of the British Economy and is about to start WWIII. He's even on the record in this thread saying how Obama's going to spend his remaining four years (if re-elected) to purposefully fuck over America because... because.
