Oh, kinda like Husky tails! ^_^ Yeah, those are cute. However, I can't make them bend. My tails were made to actually be opposite of still-form tails. They act more like the tails that just hang there when they're taken from an animal. XP I suppose it would be hard at ALL To put a wire in one, though... Not sure. I'll try it sometime.

Oh wow! I love the furry LOOK of these. And how ingenious; looks like real fur, but probably a lot cheaper (and with a greater array of colors) than faux-fur. And, of course, I always thought fuzzy fabric was an unnacceptable choice for making tails out of. (And if you really think about it, tails are actually 90% fluff, the tail itself is very thin, your tails make a lot more sense, considering there's not mostly stuffing.)

However: How does the material feel? It looks silky, yet it's made of yarn; I can't imagine what the actual texture is like.

I think I'm going to show you off to my older brother, who's an orange Mainecoon with a LARGE fluffy tail -- he always complains how his stuffed tail is too stiff, and impossible to sit down with.

Otherwise, I have no money nor inclination to buy a tail NOW, but do you think you could ever do a long, spotted, but short-haired tail, like a Margay's? (The spots would actually be more like stripes, but still complicated, I understand)

I could totally make a Margay tail, though I don't know about getting it to be short. : /
Also: How does it feel? I'll be honest with you, I think it's incredibly silky. I'd compare it to my cat Ginger who's like a supermodel when it comes to her fur, but you don't know what she feels like XD I guess the closest I can come is... hm..

Okay. Say you just gave your dog a bath, right? With cold water. The yarn has no heat in it. XD

And I know yarn is gross feeling sometimes, but the method I use actually tears each piece of yarn apart to be essentially in the state it was before it was twisted into yarn.

Edit: And after giving the dog a bath with cold water, you blow-dry the hair and add silkening syrum in it. XD

All I needed to know was that it felt as soft as it looked -- which is incredible, considering it's yarn, and I HATE the feeling of yarn.

As for the Margay tail: I would assume that cutting the yarn shorter would make the "fur" shorter? Or maybe shaving it after you sew it? I don't know. xD

Well, like I said, I'm not looking for tails at the moment. But if you ever manage to find a way to make the length of the fur more approppriate for a feline, I'd probably be interested in the future.

Oh oh, also: Is the tail washable? One of the reasons I don't want to get a air-brushed tail is because I hear you can't WASH them, but that's really the only way to get a spotted or striped tail sometimes.

I'm not sure. I'd assume you could. I'll make an experimental bunny tail and see what happens.
If I ever find out a way to make shorter fur, I'll let you know. ^^ But as for my technique, the shorter the fur is the more obvious the sewing and fluff-bases would be.

Try hand-washing it first; because I'd be fine with that. : )

And thanks! I'll keep an eye out for you in the future.

Working with crafts frequently myself, I believed yarn should be washable, though I would indeed suggest hand washing. Given the technique of the tail creation, I don't think it would hold up well to any sort of machine washing, but the yarn should still hold it's color. You will most likely need to give it another brushing afterward though

    Oh definitely xD
Brushing is good for these things. Although, I'm partial to slightly messy hair, so I'm the same way with tails. ^^

I'd probably guess that my tail would cost between 25-30 bucks. I'd say that's fair. You do a really good job from what I can see.

I am glad to see this thread get a lot of attention, it should have a lot of attention. Once my tail is done, for any of you who have doubts about it, I'll post back here and let you know how it has turned out.

This is a far better idea than the original idea I had of dying a real tail in five different rings.

    I feel so loved. ^_^

I'm running to Hobby Lobby on Tuesday to get the yarn. I found yarn that I think will match perfectly.

Aww, there's plenty of places to wear a tail!
Conventions, the grocery store, hanging out with your friends, wearing it to school so when someone asks you can tell them all about how you're trying to help me stop people from buying real tails that most likely came from a fur farm ;D

    See? Plenty of reasons. xD

I guess I'm lucky that my parents don't care. My mom tells me there's this girl who goes into Ihop (where she works) every day with a tail and ears on and a collar and such, so I guess furries are old news to her. XD

Otherwise, *prods post above* You can always tell them that you bought it to stop people from buying from fur farms, or you can tell them you wanted a soft, silky yarn pillow..... xD

Nah, just kidding. Well, not really. Not trying to pressure you or anything. xD

Thank you! That would be roughly 16 inches, then. That's as long as the white tail, just an inch more actually. I'd say that's a perfectly decent size for a wolf tail ^_^

    Yeah, you may want to.

I suck at making ears. Simple as that. XP I've tried cutting up fake fur and just making super simple ones, but even they get messed up lol

I made some pretty good ears myself. Held up on the inside with cardboard from Pepsi boxes... XD I never had the patience to make a pair like the ones on PawStar though...

Now I don't have the time anyway... XD
