Superficially so. For some reason, string theory isn't regarded as complete bullshit (aside from quantum gravity supporters or something :V). It's a "fitting the cause to the result" kind of thing, yet still considered science. In this comparison, atheism would be saying "there's nothing smaller than the quark. We have no need for anything smaller, and no one can prove that there is".
So until we have the methods to doubtlessly be able to say "yep, there's something/nothing after death" the only logical and reasoned conlusion is "fuck if I know, I'll find out after death". Atheism is as much of a belief as theism.
BTW, what I'm wondering now is: would atheism, clearly being based on hard and inarguable logic, surface if religions of the world were NOT exploited by dicks for their own personal gain? I don't mean "if there was no evil on earth", just that if none of that evil was ever tied to religion.
Tatch, you know better than to mega-necro. Thread closed.
