Most of the city is all right, but there are a few notoriously bad areas, such as Roxbury and Dorchester. But, the city center and schtuff are very nice.

Cities like Boston and New York are the main reason I'll never live in a major city if I can help it. They're loud, smell terrible, concentrate people into far too high a density, and seem to attract the worst people you're likely to meet (not to mention the way city people drive). Add to that the increased likelihood of violence and their dependence upon imported goods and the price markup that comes with them and the only thing cities have going for them is proximity to goods and services and employment opportunities.

It's 'Fake England', not New England. Get it right. :p

Ceteris paribus, imported goods are generally cheaper than domestic goods, so unless the imported goods are of greater quality, or something else, than the domestic goods, they'll probably be cheaper.

I think I'm a rural sort of guy as well, mainly because it's what I'm used to, but also because the lower amounts of air pollution and greater amounts of green space being nice. That said, there are redeeming qualities about big cities as well. For example, city culture (concerts, museums and restaurants) and greater economic prospects make the idea of living in a major city sound quite attractive to me. Of course, nearby furry conventions are another plus. Though then again, cities are definitely not all created equal, and every city has its bad spots. Moreover, crime is almost certainly higher and there definitely is a greater variety of people there, whether thats a good or bad thing.

The fandom, and therefore, the forums, is predominantly American, British, or European, so you won't find any shortage of those demographics here, or the districts they reside in.
