It's 2017, social media have been out for a decade and maybe it's time to move on. This hedonistic pursuit has turned the fandom into a brothel. It's tragic. It's hella acephobic too. Like, can't we express ourselves without any throbbing genitals showing? It's boring and uncreative. Portray healthy relationships instead. How bow dah?

To be fair to the greater context: Porn is an incredibly dominant force in pretty much all mediums, not just furry art.

It's nice to say that people have a wide variety of interests and all, but: Porn Sites Get More Visitors Each Month Than Netflix, Amazon And Twitter Combined | The Huffington Post

Lump a ton of those interests together, furry or not, and porn still stands out as the biggest one.

So FA's record of the art being majority non-porn is if anything kinda refreshing. People still obsessing over it isn't much of a surprise, because it just draws that sort of attention. But it's far less a big deal than many make it out to be.

this reminds me an old joke: "I burned the whole internet on 90 dvd. Without porn its about 4 dvd"

Okay, thats not exactly how the original was worded but you get the idea

Fair point, just remember that 90% of HuffPo headlines are BS. I don't really trust them because they are a major offender in the fake news cycle...

Try to avoid making a post about furry porn into something about the political landscape :p

False news does not perfectly align with the political landscape. If we are talking about how furry porn hurts the fandom we have to mention the media. The only point politics was exactly brought up was by you not when crimson talked about media companies lying to the public.

Hey, I get that seeing porn can be off-putting for ace folks, but I don't think this is a fair statement to make, for multiple reasons:
    • The sexual content is produced for people who enjoy the sexual content, usually by people who enjoy sexual activities themselves. It's not misogynist of a gay man to not want to get it on with a woman, and it's not acephobic for people to produce sexual content for people who enjoy that content. The sexual content is not mocking or belittling ace folks, it's simply there for the people who enjoy it. If you want more quality clean content, produce or commission it. That's how the adult content came to be.
    • Not everyone that appreciates adult artwork does so because it gets them off. It is possible to appreciate the skill and craft that goes into creating a piece that shows two (or more) bodies interacting, or in rendering sweat and sexual fluids, or what have you. I don't have any artwork in my favorites that I don't find visually appealing as art. Any tittilation is strictly secondary to skillful rendering.
    • Thinking of new ways of fitting bodies together can be incredibly creative. It being unappealing to you personally doesn't mean it's objectively boring or lacking in creativity.
    • Healthy relationships and sex are far from mutually exclusive. I'll draw smut for my husband and our boyfriend, because we have a strong, healthy relationship. Wanting variety in how relationships are portrayed is one thing. Suggesting that some aspects of them are lesser because they don't appeal to some portion of the population isn't fair to anyone. Or I might say that four-figure weddings are a waste of time and money and should never be portrayed or described in art. ;)
I'm not saying you can't be wishing there was more clean content (though ~70% is a good chunk already!), but you're just setting yourself up to be offended if you decide to see the existence of adult work as an attack on your (lack of) sexuality. Just disable viewing Mature and Adult work on the mainsite if it bothers you that much. :)

What? I don't find it insulting in the slightest and I'm asexual; if you really want to use that term, even though it's a terrible term to use mostly due to what it actually means

In my opinion, I'm neutral on this. The pornography side of the Furry fandom is why we're judged frequently by the media and whatnot. They've decided to take that part of the community, take things out of context, and imply that all furries are into that. Well, that's what I believe. People overreact to things sometimes, and we just happened to get the heat of it. I'm not saying that the furries into the erotic stuff deserve all the hate they get. They're human, just like us, and are into what they enjoy. We can't judge them for it.

So, in my opinion, I don't think it's ruining the community.

The point was that having unusual attractions isn't particularly uncommon. So with this in mind, it could be said that having unusual fantasies over anthro porn isn't too abnormal since there are many other people that also have weird fantasies.

As for comparing weirdness of kinks (I would define kink as any irregular sexual fantasies/desires), I'm of the opinion that anthro porn is much more tame and normal than many other sorts of kinks. I mean, there are relatively few differences between anthro and standard pornographic content. If you think about it, anthros are basically just humans but with an animal texture pack or skin.

Furry Porn is a big part of the Furry Fandom. However, even without the porn, people would hate Furries because we are different. Eccentric, and people just happen to hate what they don't understand.
If you're walking down the street in a Furry Suit, regardless if someone doesn't actually think you're an animal fucker, you're going to be ridiculed and asked if you're a retard. Or at least think you are.
Why care what others think, anyways? You're apart of the fandom for your own reason, and if you really want the whole world to accept Furries then.. well.. good luck with that

Yes and no... there's tasteless porn, lame and overly fetishistic. I enjoy my porn but seeing it among the poor kind discourages me somewhat.
That's why I stick to my inbox for the most part and rarely browse the site for it. Unless I'm looking for something specific.

  17. No.

The way a "normal" human being takes a first look at this fandom, gets shocked at something they couldn't understand on spot, and then give it a bad impression. They then take that bad impression, and spread it to others that also happen to not understand it. And the cycle continues.

The reason I think it's a firm "no" to this threads' question is because there is porn of literally everything in the entire world. TV shows, movies, objects, people, fandoms. Everything.
And not everything is being tarnished by that fact.

I think it's the people moreso than the porn. The porn is static.

Jarren What doesn't kill me makes me stranger.

Porn is porn, but our porn and it's many variant just add another layer of strange/deviance/cringe to the medium. In that vein, I think a lot of the issue comes from the overly fetishized nature of a lot of the non porn images the fandom puts out. Try browsing FA with the SFW filter on and tell me a good chunk of what you still see isn't 'abnormal/deviant/fetish material despite being "clean." Vore, diaper, hyper, fat/obese, macro/micro, babyfur/abdl, crossdressing, amputee, poorly drawn crossover pairings, poorly written fanfiction with a nearly erotic bent, all of these things still show up while browsing "general" art and are (in my experience) much easier for the layperson to stumble across than in other communities because (and I'm just going out on a limb here) these particular kinks seem to be more prevalent here and so show up more often in tame works. Plus, the porn IS sexualizing critters of other species, which you've gotta admit (from any mainstream point of view) is weird. Couple this with cringe-worthy roleplays and lifestylers/fetishists with no filter and you get a good portion of the mess we have today. That, and the fact that we're a rather niche interest that is easy for other members of the internet to 'other' and you have the perfect whipping boy for all the internet to have a go at (especially with how easy it is to set off a good number of the aforementioned individuals).
    BOO!
