To be honest, I think it ruins the fandom just a little.

People can make and look at porn of whatever they want, I'm okay with that. The only reason it's gets on my nerves is that because of it, the internet has created this huge misconception that the furry fandom is nothing but a huge fetish or that we are attracted to animals.

I absolutely hate when I'm drawing furries/talking about being a furry and people come up to me saying, "so you're attracted to animals??" or "furry? You know what that means right?" And even after I explain it to them I'm not a furry for sexual reasons, they still think I'm weird.

I guess it's more the internet misconception rather than the porn that's causing this problem, but it still gets me upset. There's nothing wrong with X-rated furry content, but I hate it when people assume that ALL furries are into the furry fetish.

Porn ruining the fandom only when is surexposed. Why people need to show to everybody their yiff ? Normal people don't do this and created some special trade or groupe for this. It is because it have not enought discretion than a lot of people think furry is weird whereas their are not for the majority...
So it is not the porn who ruinned the fandom but the lack of discretion .

I don't think the porn is ruining the fandom. The cringe worthy content that some people post is ruining the fandom. However porn is somewhat adding to the fire because when nonfurries thinks about furries, the first thing that pops in their mind is the porn. Some of the genre of the crap is the reason for the fandom going to shit.
But it is mostly the cringe.

I don't think porn ruins the fandom really. When you enter any fandom there will be plenty of it and no one can stop that. I think due to the nature of the fandom it alters peoples perception of it.

The furry fandom is an interesting one. There's generally no focus point like a show or video game. Most of the characters portrayed in furry art are extensions and representations of ourselves. Others or simply imagined characters for the same reason they are put into shows and games, it's fun. This in turn already makes this fandom seem weird to others. Certain documentaries and random situations have note helped the perception and assumptions the general populous has in terms of the furry fandom either. Mixed with humans natural propensity to focus in on things of a sexual nature and it just reinforces there own idea of what the fandom is about. Even though roughly 75% of the fandom and what the fandom produces is pretty clean.

Porn isn't ruining the fandom. People already have certain perceptions of it and see the porn as a reinforcement of the ideas they had already solidified in their own head. I'm willing to admit the fact that as an adult women taking enjoyment in some of the things I do and dressing up as a hyena for no other reason than the fact I want to is already weird enough in and of itself. Same goes for dressing up as random characters from anime as I am a cosplayer. The only difference is that due to the Heroes of Cosplay and Tumblr, the idea of it has been normalized somewhat. It gives people a connection point. That same connection point does not exist for furries.

TLTR; Porn isn't ruining the fandom. People already have their own idea of it and use porn to reinforce and justify it.

I don't think porn is ruining the fandom (entirely), but it makes it harder to talk about furry things with friends that aren't furry. For example: for the longest time my friend thought I mainly drew porn and I was surprised when he told me this? He just assumed because I said that I drew furry art :/

There's a lot of porn in every fandom as well, so this feels like a weird question. Sure, it seems to be a lot more prolific here but it's not that strange, and it's not like everyone who enters the furry fandom does it for the porn? Honestly, I tend to side-eye people that think that, because, like...it's just art, man. Not everything is going to be NSFW. Not that there's anything wrong with NSFW furry content, but thinking that it's all the fandom has is...kind of lazy.

I don't care for porn but I'm 80% other fandoms have porn as well and if a non furry has the wrong idea about furries that's their problem

I'd say no, it doesn't ruin the fandom. It enriches it.

Porn is definitely a part of the fandom. The entire fandom started from porn, and we should be thankful of the fandom being where it is today. But we've grown up, and branched out into areas you'd think were impossible 20-30 years ago.

Like it or dislike it, porn's come to stay.

In my opinion. Porn isn't ruining the fandom. Every fanbase has porn so its just a norm. People who don't like furry just don't like it because its not their thing to start, with or without porn. Yes they may enjoy some furry creatures in games and shows (leomon, machoke, etc) but that is probably the furthest they will accept.

ITT: "I'm a furry and I hate furry porn because I'm judged for it when some of the furry porn leaks out of the cracks of this fandom into the wider media sphere. Oh, PS, I've never actually told anyone I'm a furry, oh, but wouldn't it be oh so scary if I left my cubicle/basement and did? Y'all better stay in your basements and make your furry fetish a deeply debilitating one -- the deeper the better, you sick fucks like me whom I passionately despise. K, peace and hugs and loves and endless unconditional tolerance; we're all in this together. Toodles! If you dare oppose my mindset, I'll paint you as someone who wants to broadcast My Little Pony castration fetish porn to 3rd graders. I love you all, bye!"

I strongly agree it's ruining the image of the fandom I feel it should be put to the way it is in other communities where somone can view the darker stuff but have it be regulated to separate sites meaning there are the porn sites and there are the clean sites I feel that it would help people be able to sort out from the sides of the fandom better and allow a place where the people who have no interest in any sort of sexual stuff in the furry community a place to mingle and chat

To put it simple I would like to have there be a be more seperation between the clean and sexual stuff meaning it's not so mixed togeher because right now it's VERY MIXED and I can't go 5 min on the popular cleaner furry sites without seeing something that references it

I never said I hated furry porn and I never said we should keep being a furry to ourselves. I don't care if you like the porn. I've looked at it multiple times, but I think it does have an affect on our image. I never even said I despised people who liked yiff or called them sick fucks. I don't know where you got that dude. Also the mlp shit was so random lmao.

My reply was barely targeted at you. "ITT" stands for, "in this thread."

Same old arguments. Same old misunderstandings.

Humans will sexualize anything, there is a paraphilia for everything, so for me i dont think so as long as its on the appropriate sites like FA, fchan or e621 and not places like twitter or facebook

Furry porn is the same thing but with anthros instead. You can get furry anime.

As for this thread who cares what haters think of furry porn?. I've got better thing's to do than worry over some judgmental morons that get butthurt over what people do in there bedroom/bathroom.

If anything, the lack of porn artists in the fandom is what's "ruining" it.
Why can't the government just brainwash people into LIKING porn instead of HATING it?

TFW, you've been around these forums (late-2005), FurAffinity(early-2005), and furry fandom (1993) -- long enough to know that the people in this thread WOULD react that way if pressed, and you have no way to communicate this to a neophyte with zero perspective.

Oh, really? How large a portion of posters do you include in "the people in this thread"? 90%? 50%?

'Cause I can tell you right now, it ain't 100%.

Well, if you weren't concerned, why reply, sheriff? Considering my total post count is 120, now 121, over 11-12 years -- making less posts per YEAR than many posters here make before breakfast -- one might well deduce I don't hang around these here parts -- despite my long tenure. Which is fine, really, I understand no one unwilling to tow the party line can ever lurk long enough. Though perhaps the atmosphere generated by the covertly snide and baiting mothering overlord panopticon gaze of the Furry Eye of Sauron, enforcing positivity wherever it goes, is in no small part to blame for contributing to the fandom's widely-publicly-perceived despicability.

Oh dear, now I suppose by me stating the obvious you're going to bait me to provide examples (other than your own, just now), and then ban me for providing asked for evidence by posting links to the various myriad of online news articles of the furry murderers, furry child molesters, and that one furry who hired a pedo-sado rapeslayer to bite his dick off as payment for murdering his parents. Shoot the messenger; see no evil. Stay classy, furries.

It's not premature for me to presume you would bait me on such a matter -- you're already soliciting from me an excuse for you to appeal to spite from the innocent cherubic denizens of this forum if I declare a majority of them losers -- winners, wonderful people, actually, -- and caustic dismissal from them if not. I've been playing this game long enough to know that I've just been venomously handed loaded dice, in the house's favor, like a child.

One question though: my replies to this thread have been pretty benign, even open-minded, so far, to justify an ADMINISTRATOR already playing intervention. So, tell me, am I to understand by premature moderation, that have I made the coveted and vaulted "Miserable Furs" list you guys keep behind the puppet show at this perpetual daycare? "*police sirens, sounds of revving speeding engines, and sounds of squealing tires making hairpin turns* "ATTENTION, ALL UNITS! UNCLE DEADLY IS BACK. REPEAT: UNCLE DEADLY IS BACK! ALL UNITS, CONVERGE ON MY LOCATION. THIRD IMPACT IS IMMINENT!"

Oh, you. Come get a hug. It's not that bad. Things are going to be okay. *gives you warm head fuzzies*
