If your device barely have 500MB of RAM you're not going to end up using Discord on your phone anyway.

The web-versions are only heavy on RAM/CPU usage if you have a lot of other crap running. And no, you don't need specific plug-ins. I've tried, both on my Android and on my desktop. Nothing is required other than a standard browser.

Ultimately, it's their choice on what they end up doing.

A suggestion of your own would be nice, instead of simply smacking down any ideas/suggestions that are put forth because you personally don't like them. <3

Skype requires Flash, as far as I know - Discord is okay without that, so it's cool, I guess. RAM usage for both services is still a bit of a restriction, though - I can load said FAF or Reddit in seconds and work with it perfectly, but Discord and Skype can give me some problems (if run at all, if my smartphone is shitty enough). In that context, "You're not going to end up using Discord anyway" actually sounds like a counter-argument against Discord, just to underline the fact that it's less versatile and more consuming than some other equally valid available options c:

But yeah, I'm not trying to smack anything up or something like that (all services are fine if they do their work, yap), I'm just counting possible drawbacks with making said "SFW place" exclusive to Discord or Skype users, along with demographic that will be left out in result. Same with creating a forum or subreddit, really - there will be some drawbacks for those who want rapid-fire conversations instead of thread-based lengthy discussions. It's all a matter of choice, so it depends on the end goal. I've only started to argue with your suggestion because you offered it as some kind of true and absolute solution (like, "Well, just install Discord, problem solved!"), so I wanted to bring up the cons to balance that a bit.

Unlike a forum in a web browser, Discord and Skype actually need resources in order to operate properly. It's not just coded lines. At worst, you only need 1MB of actual resources in order to run the code on a site. And that's the site itself, not the browser program.

User interface, interactive features, on-demand or live stuff happening depending on how you interact with it, +++. A program is vastly different than that of a forum on resources used alone. A program is live, a forum is for the most part, on-demand.

On a device with lower specs you're more likely to use your available resources on the OS and other stuff anyway, leaving less room for apps such as Discord and Skype.

They are free to choose, and they don't have to limit themselves to one choice. They can do a mix of reddit, Discord, Skype and group chat/PM's over a forum.

But again, as valid as aforementioned arguments are, the end result is still the same - Discord is less versatile and more consuming, even for the good reasons :)

Welp, that's true, I agree on that. I was just, again, turned off a bit by "Try this, it'll fix everything" logic - if we're going to suggest something, let's do that properly, to give OP a good summary of pros/cons and offer some degree of choice. Advices like "Brand X is the best, forget everything else!" sound subjectively fanboyish and objectively useless, if you ask me .з.

    Um, no.

The two sites that I am an Admin on, do not fall under this category. They are SFW, which does not fall under this heading.

All we expect is clean things your grandmother would not be offended by.

Okay, my grandmother was offended by a multitude of things. In fact, she was a hateful old biddie that hid behind The Bible and misinterpreted the scriptures for her personal gain. We loved her but she was hard to get along with, God rest her soul. Or Devil rest her soul.

Um well, more like throwing bake sales to buy air conditioning. Satan wouldn't put up with her for long.

  12. yes.. folks like the OP, (that hold that position), as not everyone (in the Fandom) - agrees with that point of view.

yeah... real simple, isn't it ?

gotta get dat "o" in front of that "k" though.. ya'know.. proper grammer, and all..

Grandma made some killer chocolate cakes and as a young stud, I never missed a donut fry at the church. Nothing like fresh raised donuts, no glaze or sugar on them. Sadly she took that recipe with her and I dearly hope Beelzebub loves donuts. I'm sure the place is air conditioned by now and the lawns all seeded/sodded/mowed to perfection. She bribed us grandkids with cake or dried apricot pie in exchange for a Saturday mowing and weeding her front and back yards.

On topic, some of the issues with finding a clean, SWF site are the artists, making sure everyone sees their art by failing(?) to flag it as NSFW. I know my list of FA, SF and DA artists I'm watching are not very big ones. I just removed an FA artist recently because they have stopped flagging their work as adult.

Yeah, clean, SFW sites are not that prevalent. It's sad but a fact of the Intarwebs.

As I let on in another post, she was hard to get along with. Her killer apple and dried apricot pies not withstanding, she would be quoting scripture to Beelzebub, using her version of chapter/verse. That's why he would at some point send her back up to let The Almighty deal with her. She certainly corrupted the scriptures, that's for sure.

Wheras the bible (KJV, 1 Timothy 6:10) says; "For the love of money is the root of all evil: which while some coveted after, they have erred from the faith, and pierced themselves through with many sorrows." Grandma's version was, "Money is the root of all evil." If you tried to correct her, she would get madder than an old, wet hen. "Don't you try to correct me!" she would say, shaking her finger at you. "I know what the bible says!"

The trouble was, grandma loved money. More than her own family. She lived in what seemed like damned near poverty on Social Security and my Grandfather's Railroad pension and Miner's Pensions. When she passed away, we were shocked by her bank account balances. And that was after one of the family (unknown who it was) did some industrial-strength account raiding.

But I digress. Sorry for the sidetrack.

I'm impressed that anyone can be so condescending, and then proceed to point out petty grammar while making several mistakes of their own.
First, capitalize the first letter of your sentences. Second, there should be a comma between "k" and "ya'know". Third, you have to use three periods instead of two to create an ellipsis. Using two just makes it look like you either hit the period key twice for no reason, or you're not brave enough to commit to making a full omission of thought.

In short: fuck entirely off. This forum topic clearly doesn't affect you at all if you don't agree with it, so go somewhere else to spew your misplaced elitism. Since you're gay, I'll illustrate a relatable example for you of how shitty your response is: how would you feel if you requested a place that featured gay-positive art, stating your distaste for current mainstream representation, only to be told by straight people to just "don't look at it" and "others don't agree"? Doesn't feel good, does it? Get out of here if you have nothing to contribute.

  18. That's a matter of opinion and debate.. one can certainly argue that 3 is better than 2.. (like in a Ménage à trois).. but, I happen to like em' 2 at a time, honey..

My goodness.. for someone who is advocating for a "clean side" for the Fandom "to interact" - your language certainly doesn't reflect that... and uh, (back at ya).. sweetheart.. ;o)

I see. So, if one doesn't agree with your viewpoint 100 % - then they can go elsewhere?

    Nice.

I've been told this everyday of my life.. (your quote above) reflects a bit of ignorance of the realities that I - (as a gay man) face in this Country, everyday.

No, it doesn't. Nor does a "lynch mob mentality" espoused (on an anonymous thread) for someone who dares disagree with your views.

I'll simplify, because the point clearly went way over your head. Either that, or you are intentionally deflecting. But just in case you aren't:

    1) You, as a gay man, know exactly what it's like for people to tell you to "don't look at it" or that "others don't agree" in regards to straight people disagreeing over the presence of gay culture, gay art, and gay spaces, and trying to force heterosexuality on you by denying the need for representation and gay spaces. We both agree that those are terrible things to tell someone, and you as a minority have been dealing with that struggle all your life. So why would you tell people here (who are seeking their OWN spaces to identify with) those EXACT same things? Don't you think that's not only rude as hell, but none of your business?

    2) In regards to swearing, I'm looking for a sexually-clean furry space where I can have some relief from the darker side of the fandom, and sex-related imagery in general. As I was involuntarily born asexual and aromantic, I would love to find a space that I can associate myself with where I can have some peace of mind. Ace spaces are extremely hard to find because there are so few of us, so as soon as I saw this forum thread I jumped on the possibility that something so awesome could exist. I have nothing against swearing, I swear like a sailor IRL, I'm just looking for an ace space in an endless sea of yiff and porn.

    3) In regards to this: "I see. So, if one doesn't agree with your viewpoint 100 % - then they can go elsewhere? Nice."
If that's what you gleaned from my statement in response to how you were being elitist and condescending, then you have missed the point again. People disagree all that time, and that's fine, and completely normal and no big deal. Where you crossed the line was with your belittling attitude regarding grammar. You were trying to give me a 1UP over something so petty, to try and give yourself some sort of moral high ground to validate your previous commentary. But what really set me off was that it was preceded by the implication that mine and the OP's views were less important than yours by you interjecting about how "not everyone in the fandom agrees".

So no shit, not everyone agrees. We all know that. You can tread on the "that's just my opinion" line all day long if you want, but here's the thing: your opinion isn't wrong. It's the fact that you chose to share it at the wrong place, at the wrong time, in the nastiest way possible. I don't have a problem with your opinion. What I DO have a problem with is you sharing it here when we're trying to find our own space, and how doing so on your part was unhelpful, unwanted, and just downright hurtful.
