  • Hey just noticed your post on your interest in nuclear explosions, and I just wanted to share a vid of my favorite set of them in space, nothing cooler than a nuclear explosion in space imo. I wish they could do some more much deeper in space so the radiation doesn't get sucked into the van-allen belts, with 4K video and whatnot.

Those torpedos were probably for sinking entire carrier groups with one shot. Or other submarines, if you know only the general area where they are hiding. In tests a 5 kiloton torpedo sunk everything within 10 kilometers.

In the late 1950s both Americans and Soviets considered nuking the Moon for science and propaganda. They expected the flash from 1.7 kilotons to be visible with naked eye. They also expected a big dust cloud, but on the other hand the explosion would have been very close to the surface. Higher up it would be different.

Wow, too bad they didn't end up doing that would have had a cool crater to show for it. I wonder though what would cause the dust kickup since there isn't much in the way of bomb casing to form vapour. Unless it is radiation pressure or debris impact causing it.
