    Animatronic Ear Project

All very neat stuff. I see that every animatronic ear design so far is single degree of freedom, using only one servo per ear. Most of them just go to only a few static positions, not bothering to do much further motion than the servo slew speed. Their implementation looks neat and I am...

    Animatronic Ear Project

That is another challenge in itself. At first, I wanted to sense pose and motion of the head using an inertial measurement unit, then use key motions and their rates to control them. The more I look into this, the less accurate it seems. Currently I am considering a wrist based controller to set...

    Animatronic Ear Project

Those are pretty nifty, though my aim is for more complex and compound motions. Unfortunately these will not be cheap, the parts in the motion control unit is over $300 alone, not to mention all the machining and whatnot. I don't have any plans to produce these enmass, it is more of a hobby.

    Animatronic Ear Project

So I saw a pair of Nicomimi ears at Bronycon this year and was rather disappointed. Don't get me wrong, they are good for their price, but I think I can take the concept much further. I am currently getting a masters degree in robotics and have been fooling around with the idea of making a set...

How do I sew a zipper on to long pile fur?

How do I sew a zipper on to long pile fur? Do I need to trim the area around the zipper so it does not get caught? Do I need to use a reinforcement layer under or over the fur? I don't really need to hide the zipper that much, I would much rather have the zipper be visible and never jam than...

Water repellant coatings on faux fur?

Thanks for the comments guys. I am still going to try a few more coatings to see if I can find one that works perfectly. I am even thinking of posting images of these under a microscope to see what is really going on at the filament level. Hydrophobic coatings should work on most liquids...

    Sewing machine?

Try picking up one of the old cast iron models, I use an old singer frequently. I hate new sewing machines, too much plastic. You can find them retrofitted with electric motors for cheap. If you get one of those you can sew through what ever you want. 12 layers of leather or diamonds.

Water repellant coatings on faux fur?

I have returned with results! The pictures are pretty self explanatory, but I will add some notes with them anyway. I cut my sample up and applied the coatings as noted. They were applied in aerosol form in a single coat and brushed in. No further treatments or cleanings have taken place. The...

Water repellant coatings on faux fur?

The experiments have started! I am using white, long pile fur from Distinctive Fabrics as my test swatches. http://www.distinctivefabric.com/fabric.php?product=SLDLGHRFUR1 The coatings being tested right now are Scotchguard Outdoor Exterior and NeverWet Multisurface. I meant to try Scotchguard...

Water repellant coatings on faux fur?

I think I will since I have some swatches laying around. I will post my findings!

Water repellant coatings on faux fur?

Hey y'all, I am messing around with a few projects at the moment, one of them being a faux fur hoodie. This is just for fun, maybe to be worn on cold dry days, but then I came up with an odd idea. Would it be possible to apply a hydrophobic coating to faux fur and have it still look and feel...

Taur furs, I do not understand

Ok, maybe hyperbole was not appropriate there. However, they are pretty bad in mythos. http://edweb.sdsu.edu/people/bdodge/scaffold/gg/centaur.html

Taur furs, I do not understand

I wonder how much of the old Greek creations were supposed to be Grotesques instead of an imagined animal. Centaurs would rape just about anything that moved. I mean, a horse cock in a human could literally fuck them to death. I do think that a lot of it came from misidentified skeletons, like...

    The Weekly Top Five Contest!

Hey, I just wanted to throw my 2 cents in here. I think this is a great idea. It gets peoples work out there and gives them an incentive to improve their writing skills. I have written a few times and just seeing views on a story is enough incentive to keep trying. That being said, not a lot of...

Taur furs, I do not understand

Something I always found odd was the concept of Centaurs and Taurs in general. The musculature, bone structure, and relation to any existing animal form does not really function. In short, six appendages, and two torsos? Why? I know that if we are swapping around traits of species and even...

    It is pumpkin beer season!

Haha, it seems the preferred beer is liquor here. Lobar, I have seen Old Rasputin before, I will add it to my shopping list. Term_the_Schmuck, I have never seen Jack's Pumpkin Spice beer before, which is odd for a Busch Beer.
