I don't think there's much need for planning to offload something from main site when there's no proof that the thing will even cause a noticeable slowdown.

This, like many others, will be done by users with tags when ferrox comes in (you can do it even now, but searching them is impossible currently). So requesting new category for this or the other thing is pointless.

Is there really need for tags to be anything but lowercase? Just convert them to lowercase when recorded and punch the user in the face if they insist on caps :P It's also trivial to write a script that converts any already existing all-caps/mixed-case tags to lower-case.

I would like there to be something that just shows the linked username instead of the icon+username (or just icon), and that :link~: sounds more suited for that.

Won't help against DDoS. When the attack becomes big enough, just refusing connections won't do crap since even the number of connection attempts alone drive the server to ground. Also, the very distributed nature of it make blocking IPs very inefficient. If the attack was repeated constantly...

The problem in prohibiting certain words is that you also need to be absolutely certain those words can't appear in valid "names" or words or sentences. And you can't really do that, so... :D

No, it doesn't. It's their choice if they want comments/crit about it or not, not your or anyone else's. Without the option there, a lot of artists who'd use it wouldn't post those art pieces in the first place because they don't want comments about it. I don't see how that would be any less...
