Sketch lightly and don't be afraid to erase mistakes. Now, if you want good, solid lines for digital inking then one thing to do is get a good art grade pen (like a Micron) and draw over your final lines in ink. Then erase the pencil, this greatly improves the "clean" aspect of your scan.
