I didn’t know that. I assumed he was too weak to strike down his brother whom he loved, even if it was in Aniken’s best interests.

I’d argue the butterfly effect dictates that we can’t actually know what would’ve gone down if Obi-Wan slew Aniken. All I know is that he left Aniken in misery, in massive pain, and alive, after all his crimes and history. He didn’t have the strength to do what needed to be done.
