You don't need to have a mouth and stomach to eat. plants take in energy from water, the soil, and the sun, they eat but in a different way then other living things do. I've never seen a plant that doesn't grow/develop or reproduce so plants are living and yes they do eat.

The definition of the word life lists these checklist items therefore if their where things for example that survived without eating they would not be living cause it doesn't fit the definition of the word life. So that means you'd have to create a whole new word to classify these organisms.
