The funny animal lovers were a part of star trek, but the porn gave furries the advantage. The sexual aspect of the subgroup(not yet the furry fandom) kept growing, Saraa(the artist) actually promoted it pushing forth several adult comics. Soon it was out of hand and we formed our own fandom.

The amount of fan-porn of that character was just ridiculous back in the day. She was the 70's version of krystal :V

Kemono is accepted by the anime fandom in japan, which also makes it hard to steal them away.
