Hmmm. What an excellent question. If I'm judging based purely on the ending and how awesome it felt after reading, then Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's "The Valley of Fear", a Sherlock Holmes novel, takes first prize. It has the best ending of any piece of fiction of all time in my most humble opinion...
