Helloe there! There isn't a set path you have to follow when being a furry, just do what you would like to do :p!
You most likely have a FurAffinity account if you're on these forums, but if you don't then just go to www.furaffinity.com and sign up and you can customise your profile there :3
When creating your fursona/other characters used for roleplays or drawing, you can use this guide that lists different facts and things about them and it may help:
Character information sheet template -- ZacAttackk's Journal -- Fur Affinity [dot] net

I'm 18 as well! I can't draw but I can probably help you out with creating your Fursona (huskies seem really popular btw). I actually created my own species, so I do know this and that.
Anyway, its nice to see you here :3

Hello! I'm brand-brand new to the furry fandom and don't know where to start! I'm only 18 but I'm really looking towards getting to know the community and really what it's all about, and maybe making friends along the way!
My interest was piqued by fursuits and fursonas, I think that they're super cute! If I'm really into this for the long haul I'd really love to invest in one.
So! My fursona Mars, a husky, is really undeveloped right now and any help on fursona creation would be much appreciated! I am pretty good at drawing so I'm ok on that front, but I'd like advice on colour/design choices if you have any.
I would also appreciate any resources on where to get my footing in the fandom (posting art, finding fursuit makers, conventions in my area etc.) Thank you all so much!
(I'm sorry if I didn't do this right, I've never been a member of a forum before :'o sorry!)

Hello,welcome to the forum.
Try and head to a convention sometime they're really great,I've been going since 2010 and it helps to find like minded people/friends you might not otherwise know about in the normal world.
Uh,as far as the regular website unless you're into questionable stuff I'd keep your safe for work filter on.
As a word of advice, try for a partial fursuit first instead of a fullsuit so you can get used to how tremendously hot they are and go for foam so you don't break your neck, the other resin/hard shell fursuit heads can be a pain in the ass..[or head.] after a while.
If you need some cutsie husky art, shoot me a message and I'll help you out I tend to do more cartoony stuff that's been compared to Disney style art here by another member.
I can also do dark/bloody/gorey stuff Lol.
As for color choices, don't go to bright it's a murder on the eyes and it's sometimes really hard to get it together in the long run when you get a partial fursuit.
But er,as for the color scheme it'll depend on what you're more comfortable with if you want edgy try and go for more earthy tones, dark reds and all of that..If you want something cutsie but not burn your eyes out maybe pick some pastel colors you enjoy and try working with them.
You can post art on the main Furaffinity website/make your own gallery there/offer commissions and you can find a lot of fursuit makers there too.
[I got mine from Paloh_Mino on Furaffinity.]
But all in all,have fun!

woah, this is all really helpful! I did end up changing my sona to a hyena instead of a husky, so i think reds and earthy tones would make more sense with him (also because his name is Mars :3c) i'm only having trouble on markings and such because my tablet isn't working so i can't toggle between colours and such :/ but i'll try and figure that out. i've also been thinking about gauges and piercings, but i don't know if those look cheesy on fursuits
hopefully i can figure my tablet out and then i could offer commissions and save up for a suit that way! i've already found a few makers in my area to I'm optimistic :))
thanks for all of your help!

Oh gosh, thank you I'm glad I could be helpful.
Gauges and piercings are actually really cool on fursuits as long as they're done right and nothing over the top.
I personally think Gauges when done right look really neat on a fursuit, especially when they even add the slightly stretched ear look to the ears on the fursuit like the ears are actually being stretched [...that was a mouthful,sorry..Lol.]
That's really cool you decided on a Hyena, there's not too many of those.
I'm glad you've found some makers in your area,it's always more comfortable when it's local or at least close by,I was practically ripping my hair out because my fursuit had to come from Germany but thankfully it came in one piece.
I wish you luck on your commissions and you're welcome, glad I could be of help!

Okay listen up, THIS IS IMPORTANT! When it comes to websites stick with Furraffinity, Weasyl, Wikifur and Deviant art. AVOID Inkbunny, E621, Sofurry and the yiff gallery. A quick search on wikifur will tell you why.
