Don't use one e-mail for furry stuff and your general important stuff; hacking and raids are not unusual no matter what site you're on. Also, keep a password book handy and never have just one password... and throw that book in a safe so no family members come across it and wonder what FurAffinity, e621, F-List, etc. is.
And make friends! Seriously! Friends mean connections, and you might save some money with the right connections if you get into commissions or something. But more importantly, friends will always keep you updated in the fandom's current events that may interest you whether it's a convention near you, car-pooling opportunities to said convention, artists that may interest you, the list goes on.
And one last thing: don't be too impressionable. Never loose sight of your own thoughts and feelings and always think before you act. I don't really want to spoil it for you, but there are some shitty and manipulative people inside of the fandom, though many will tell you otherwise.
(And at least TRY when you're making your own fursona; 50 neon colors, an edgy backstory and being a hybrid of a bunch of different species doesn't make you unique, your personality does.)

To trim out a bit of Zipline's sarcasm, do heed the "furry coming out" thread's warning in the Community Discussion. Yes, the fandom is fun and might be/become a core part of your identity. No, you should not make a huge deal out of it or put a shit ton of work into furry apologetics. The most cringey things I ever see are when someone tries some elaborate scheme to show someone else (particularly parents) what the fandom is about or prove that it's actually sparkling clean and innocent. Really it just backfires and ends up highlighting the deviant elements which it is infamous for. The best course of action, as Zipline says, is to just let it be another one of your hobbies. Simply don't volunteer information about it because it's not terribly important. The idea is to have your reputation be good, strong, and unassociated with the fandom. This undermines the stigma you risk getting stuck with when someone finds out you're a furry.

There is porn. Lots of it. You'll be able to avoid a lot of it if you're aware that it exists and what keywords to look out for, but at some point it's gonna intersect with your interest whether you like it or not. You don't have to participate in the porn if you don't want to, but try not to be too judgemental of those who do - we're all a bunch of freaks here, love. :)

This is a very open and accepting community. This is wonderful because there is a place for everyone! This is also horrible, because there is a place for everyone. Because so much of the fandom revolves around sexuality, there's some really kinky/freaky/disturbing stuff out there, and a prevailing attitude that we have to accept it as-is because the fandom is so inclusive. Keep an eye out for manipulative, malicious individuals who would do you harm, and always follow your gut instincts about them. You are NOT required to like someone if they give you the creeps, no matter what anyone tries to tell you.

There will be drama, and lots of it. How much you put up with is entirely up to you. Try to not let it get you down or scare you away from the fandom... though most people won't blame you if it does.

Be creative! The furry fandom abounds with many artists of all walks of life, and most of us are happy to collaborate and share with others. But don't steal art - that's just not cool, man. Some of us do try to make a living off of our creative skills; art theft hurts our bottom lines.

And most of all - have fun! As freaky as this place can be at times, most of the people you'll meet are awesome, amazing folks to know.

Besides that seriously being a furry isn't a big deal, and you don't have to do anything special; just talk to other people who have the same interests and don't annoy them, and all will be good

- Be prepared to cringe. FUCKTONNES of cringe
- Many people you meet in the fandom will be spineless or in some form rub you the wrong way. It's normal
- There is a lot of drama associated with furry. Either ignore it or stoke the fire and laugh at the reactions (my personal favorite)

- There are some decent normal people in the fandom. Best of luck finding them
- Ignore people who bitch at you for whatever you choose. For some reason people like to bitch about fursonas and shit
- Glorious human master race. Never forget that
- Regardless of how weird or fucked up you are, you'll fit in just fine. No exceptions to this

Welcome mate and I pity you

Silly person I keep all of my history and searches on my computer. If my family wants to sneak in and look at the fucked up shit I enjoy then that's on them to ruin their day c:

But seriously though what is F-list and what is the point of it. I see it mentioned every so often

We're people who like aniamls.

I dunno what to say. Talk to people. Have a good time. You'll figure out your niche.

I hadva friend pressure me into making an account. Didn't like it at all. It was weird and I was never once into it. (I had great friends :v)

Its a place where you take an extensive fetish test, post it publicly, and have people with similar tastes try and RP fuck you.

Or you use it for the chat rooms and people watch because HOLY FUCK is it amazing what goes on. Half the people are super awkward. The one's who are semi-decent are trying to deal with the awkward people hitting on them. It's damn hilarious.

Sometimes there are interesting chats, too.

It's mostly a place to find RP fuck buddies, though.

Oh shit are you telling me there's actually a reason to use it? I wanna hear some of these stories if they're as great as what you make it out to be. You've actually piqued my interest. Is it easy to make people mad by just saying the slightest thing like calling them Bob instead of Dildorz6969?

*sips drink* I'm just here to post copious amounts of furry porn.

And I'm here to look up copious amounts of porn c:

Dunno, I've never joined in on conversation. Just people watched. Mostly the pokemon chat thing.
It's mostly just weird cringey shit. I didn't ever stay for long, just spend an hour watching pokephiliacs jabber.

I don't condone trolling, though :v

We are both in the right place. :3

Maybe we can work out some kind of deal here. I see a bright future for the both of us

Aww that's lame. I thought there was like some juicy drama to laugh at or something. Not just some plain old sperging

...things I gotta know as a Furry ?
Didn't someone show you the secret handshake yet? it's the easiest method of identifying fellow furries!
if you suspect someone to be a furry, start by sneaking behind them and aggressively sniff their butt.
...did i mention it's also the riskiest method?
