Amateur month

Just thought it might be kind of neat to have a month or a week with amateur artists doing the banners for the mainsite, like a new artist everyday for a week or once or twice a week for a month, just to get the lesser know artists some publicity.

Banners are already made by amateur people, no ?

Maybe you mean something more like the Daily Deviation of DeviantART ?

I don't know I don't use or go to deviantART.

I thought the monthly banners are done by more...well-versed artists, thats what it seems like to me anyway. I mean like, I don't know how to explain it that well...

You mean popular artists ?
You know- some becomes popular after the banner is posted- X)

As for your suggestion, I know some furries who are working on a journal
Maybe they will promote less know artists.

No I mean good artists, not necessarily popular ones, like, the banners are always so well done, anatomy always so perfect, colouring so excellent. I mean like, showcase some of the artists who aren't that great, who might fudge things up a bit, but are brave enough to give it a shot, and instead of getting critique "this and that need fixing" like on a regular piece it would be more like "hey oh wow, you made a site banner? thats really cool" :p even if it was only up for a day or a week, it could be a real boost to said artist.

You could ask Preyfar about this, since as far as I know, he handles everything to do with the art for the site banners & the commissioning thereof etc.

Hmm... to me, the banners already have a good range from popular to lesser known artists. I'm not the be-all end-all of how well-known artists are, but these artists range from from Blotch (well-known, of course :p) to Clawed, whom I'd never heard of before. Both artists are very talented, but if you were to judge popularity by pageviews alone, Blotch has 75,000 in the space of a year or so, and Clawed has about 7000 in the same period, more or less. (I like both their styles, and since I hadn't discovered Clawed before, I was glad he was chosen to make the banner.)

So it sounds to me like it's less about popularity itself to you and more about, um, quality. Or lack thereof. I like seeing the high-quality banners the way they are now, but I guess we'll see what Preyfar thinks. I think they're his domain as Dave said.
