Any way to filter out Patreon spam?

These days, it seems like everybody is getting a Patreon. Good for you all, and best of luck with it. However, there's only so much money to go around, and I've got a pretty good idea from looking at people's galleries who I want to support. Making ~20% of the "New Submissions" I see censored or incomplete and plastered with logos of all the places I can give the artist money isn't winning any loyalty...and if I already support the person doing it, then it's going to do even less good.

I'm not saying that FA should ban pimping your Patreon, but it really is getting out of hand. So, before I go purging my watchlist of everyone who has a Patreon that I'm not already supporting, is there any other way to kill all this spam? Seriously, I need adblock for my watchlist!

is it really that so wrong that artists want to get paid for their talents?
Artists censor certain bits and pieces of their work and lock down material to appeal to the patrons that actually support them. i think there's a big difference between advertising unrelated products and Patreon; it's essentially a tip jar. Most people get the same content for free and those that give a little, get to see something extra. What's the harm or annoyance in that? i wouldn't say Patreon is "getting out of hand" at all. Artists just want a way to make a living on their hobby and i see no harm in that. Most of the time, the majority of the works are left enough intact anyway. To be honest, genitalia is usually the first and only thing to get hidden and the LAST thing i ever look at.

That's comparing apples and hand grenades, isn't it? Spamming people's submissions with a bunch of ads doen't really do anything to help artists get paid. A lot of these pictures are so cut off and heavily covered in logos that they don't do anything to show off the artist's talents to new watchers. If anything, it's more likely to drive off people who otherwise would be watching them than attract new interest. New watchers are more likely to be drawn in by an actual picture than a teaser. Meanwhile, like I said before, people already watching know that artists have Patreons, and don't need to have it shoved in their face to remember. Being pestered about a decision they likely already considered or decided isn't going to make them more favourable to the idea, nor put extra money in their pockets if they simply don't have enough to begin with. So all these teaser images do for existing watchers is clutter their inbox with notifications for things they don't care about (my current problem).

In short, if an artist needs to remind people they have a Patreon, a link on their profile page and a line or two reminder in the descriptions of their art is bound to be about a million times more effective.

Not only patreon ads, but also YCH/raffle reminders (most of which are posted in general audience despite being porn-related), stream notices, etc. Gets very annoying very fast, and the most unpleasant thing is that all this stuff seems to be on the way of slowly being accepted by site policy (not too long ago, tried to report the guy who basically spammed the feed with reminders, only to be told by AsiaNeko that "We can't remove this stuff because we're revising the rules on that matter" or something like that). That's why I more or less gave up on searching for new artists on FA, sticking to my humble list of "watched people who don't do that crap" and waiting for a proper blacklist tool.

Well you certainly noticed they have Patreon accounts so it obviously worked then, didn't it?
Also, what apples and hand grenades are you referring to???? How are Patreon posts and teases NOT a way to advertise their Patreon accounts?

YCH/raffle reminders (most of which are posted in general audience despite being porn-related), stream notices, etc.
YCH and reposts are annoying but i don't see the problem with stream notices. Most of the time, it's just an upload of the same "Streaming Now!" banners. i just pass them up with the ol' NUKE button. it's not like these notices are messages addressed TO ME. There's no reason to click on them, no reason to give them any time. i just ignore them.

Ads, reminders and notices are all just par for the course, though. While they might be annoying to see time and time and time again, are they reeeeeeeally that intrusive? it COULD be worse! They don't have sounds, they don't pop-up or change the page your browsing, they don't stop the flow of checking your messages and they're easy to identify and ignore. All-in-all is it reeeeeeeally that bad when considering how bad internet adverting usually is?

Did it? Because it didn't get me to subscribe to/support anyone new. It's also reached the point where I've already unwatched more than one artist, which I'm pretty sure is the literal opposite of the intent. Not to mention had at least one artist block me for complaining about it, which means that I can't even commission them next time they're open...and that's just dumb on their part.

i suppose that's fair but my point was that you acknowledged it. My only suggestion is that you just ignore it. i just think it could be worse. At least the artists aren't advertising something else like shilling products or unrelated services. The ads are annoying, yes, but they aren't intrusive like other forms of online advertising and they're relatively easy to ignore/remove. For most artists, i can handle a few extra items in my inbox. i have unwatched YCH/auction/stream notice spammers but not because of the ads or Patreon plugs. it's the countless $5 recolored close-ups of genitals and boob shots i can't stand. The cropped and censored Patreon submissions are fine because they usually cover stuff i'm not generally interested in. if an artist's submissions are annoying enough to make me unwatch them, their work wasn't worth me watching them in the first place.

i, by no means, are suggesting your issue is invalid. it just doesn't bother me for the most part. Having a way to opt out of ads and stream notices would be nice like on DeviantART but on FA we still can't unwatch journals. They promised that feature a decade ago and we still don't have it...

Welp, the thing with usual internet advertising is that if I don't have anything useful to do (or don't want to do anything useful) for people who order or place those ads, I can just block them. Spam posts, however, are not only unblockable, but also much more annoying compared to usual web ads (at least unobtrusive ones), since they constantly sneak into your feed no matter if you like them or not. Unlike usual FA advertising, those posts don't do anything to support the site, and I'm not going to spend my money on YCHs or watch streams by some random strangers I don't know either, so those reminders/notices are pretty much worthless for me, and I would like to have some opportunity to block them out, so I can lurk around the gallery feed more comfortably.
