I lol'd. XD

In other news, I think these pricks had it coming to them. If you want to spread your bullshit propaganda, then do it elsewhere, not at a place/time of grieving.

A grieving father won a nearly $11 million verdict Wednesday against a fundamentalist Kansas church that pickets military funerals out of a belief that the war in Iraq is a punishment for the nation's tolerance of homosexuality.

This is actually refreshing, since the craziest of the crazy fundies in my neck of the woods tend to be of the notion that we're all going to hell for not supporting the war.

Considering that the Phelps family seems to be chock full of lawyers, (I guess they have to do something when they aren't hate-mongering,) I'd be shocked if they ended up paying a dime of it.

Although I wouldn't rule it out. It might end up being like that time when the State of Idaho bankrupted the Aryan Nations and basically forced them out of the state.

Oh, I do hope so.

But as they say, it ain't over 'til it's over.

(They'll try to appeal, then they have bankruptcy proceedings, it's going to be a while.)

It's about damned time.

There really is a limit to how far freedom of speech should be used to defend/justify the kind of behavior the Phelps people promote. Freedom does not mean people have the right to abuse and harass others to the extent of showing up at a funeral to spew hate-speech and push the idea that the child a parent is putting into the ground was killed as an act of God and is going to hell because we as a nation do not burn homosexuals at the stake.

Freedom is not the right to harass and abuse others as you see fit without consequence. Freedom is about the right to live without being subjected to such abuse.

I hope this sets a precedent, and more people will stand up against the utter Bullshit of that loathsome church, and every funeral they attempt to soil take similar legal action against them.

Even if they escape paying people somehow, surely at some point it can be criminally prosecutable to continue to repeat an offense found unlawful by multiple lawsuits.

Bout damn time.
Owned.

Actually when the picture of the infamous picketers this morning, it was a moment of, "Fucking shit, what does god hate me for now?" Little did I know it turned out to be the best damn news I've heard all day.

Just goes to show you that when you're an asshole, you get assholed back 3 times as bad.

Liens :D Skimming their checks :D

Honestly, I think the church has the money. They've sued so many times for cities and such violating their free speech rights, and most of the cases are settled out-of-court for undisclosed amounts. That's their shtick, I suppose - piss as many people off as you can and then collect money when they retaliate.

Sick. Thats all I can say about them.

If you don't like the war, thats fine, but don't go acting like the guys out there are the only ones to blame.
Hell, I think the war isn't right, but I have respect for the guys waking up in that mess every morning and putting their balls on the line.
And even if it WAS them that were to blame, HE DIED! Learn some fucking respect. Thats my opinion.

I don't like religion, but I wouldn't picket outside a place of worship during a sermon. That'd just be thick.

I think this made the front page of my college's newspaper. And it restores at least a little bit of my faith in humanity.

This annoys me, am I the only open minded Christian in existence?

Now everyone who's funeral they protest at will sue them. They wont have time to protest with all the court dates. I think they deserve it. People should have more common sense.... I'm just surprised it took so long and they didn't get shot first.

For sure! I'm actually surprised no one filed a big lawsuit sooner.

Actually, what Phelps and retards like him fail to understand is that the "freedom of speech" entry in the Constitution is meant more for giving people the right to speak out against the government, since back then kings and shit got butt-hurt when you had something negative to say about them.

Homosexuality is bad because I'm an insecure big- er... um.... Because GOD! Yes! Because God says so!

Anyway, I've always wondered what these people would do when they found out that there are gay and lesbian Christians.

What worries me is that these days people are also starting to play the science card like the religion card. It doesn't matter if what you say is true or not as long as you sound like you know it is.
