Been out of the loop.

Sorry for the dumb questions, but I’ve been quite out of the loop with the whole fandom and 2 questions have came across my mind.
1.) What’s with the whole “Illegal” protegen thing?
2.) Who tf is Genesius, and why is he so hated? I heard he quoted the bible once, but I doubt that alone could lead to mass hate.

Please keep the discussion civil if my questions seem controversial. We have enough flamewars already. Just need a simple answer, not a whole essay about it :p

Haven't heard about the protegen thing but I've heard about Genesius.

Apparently the whole problem with him is that he's constantly trying to stir up drama with other furries like Kothorix, he's a burned fur that hates pornography because "it's not real love" and "goes against his religion" which would be ok if he didn't get caught accidentally live streaming yiff on youtube, and on top of that he likes to insult people posting porn in social media.

Yikes :/
Sucks that people can’t just respect others opinions and interests. Especially when people try and say “well it’s my religion/right/political stance” so I can be a douche.
I can see why there’s the drama w/him now. Thanks for the clarification.

The "Illegal Protogen" thing is basically: the creator of the protogen species placed strict rules on what can and cannot be put on a protogen if you're making one, and that if you didn't follow them they would apparently put you on a "blacklist" where they wouldn't count your protogen as a legal one, and I guess using connections would tell other artists not to draw it or something? not sure

He had a whole guidelines thing on protogens and what you could and could not put on them (which for the life of me i can't find anymore), the dude also had a species named "primagen" (basically protogens with a blockyish face) that you couldn't make and could only purchase through auctions.

EDIT: found the FAQ on the website for them Frequently Asked Questions – PrimaProto

Thanks for the FAQ website.
I kinda hate that the only way you're allowed to explore Primagens is by buying them
Why?

They’re closed species, and the only way to get them is in auctions that start out fair but it’s an auction.

Really do not bother with it, I recommend people to actually get creative and either make their own species or add accessories to already existing one.

Primagens are stupidly rare aswell in that the auctions aren’t common.
Plus they’re overrated, like having a dragon hybrid.

Phew, that's a relief, I've already got a 2000 word essay to finish:p

In regard to the questions, I have no idea either, sorry! ^^

Closed species is a moronic concept. You want to control an idea, basically. A buddy of mine was tempted to make one out of spite.

Genesius is a moron, plain and simple. He's not worth paying attention to.

As right you are, it still doesn't mean people won't look down on it.
Like EA's practice, it's technically efficient but it's just a dick move.

>Ends up making closed species anyway.

Have I got some bad news for you about a thing called "intellectual property".

(I realize closed species aren't usually copyright protected, but people can and do put lids on ideas)
