If the name isn't in use, you can use it. If you can search the name, you can't.

Hi there from a lurker. :D I've had a bit of an identity crisis over the past several years, and finally got a unified account name. Any way I can have my main account on FA (@Ornithologist65) changed to reflect this new, more universal username of @Kilrathi95? (Or just @Kilrathi, if it's not taken!)

I'd certainly appreciate it. If any other info or anything is needed, please let me know. Thank you in advance!

You are welcome to create a new account on the main site under that name. However, direct main site name changes aren't possible at this time.

That's fair. Thanks! I saw the thread and wasn't entirely sure if it was just for forums, or for the main site.
