Colorado furs and disability

Hello everyone!

Me and my mate are considering moving to Colorado but are both disabled and need to know on average how much does disability insurance pay for people in Colorado?

Thank you bunches for any help!

On SSI disability, like $680.
For disability from a previous work history, I'm not really sure? I think like $800 something. My fiance's sister gets it, but I forget what she's told me.

And why do you ask this on a furry forum?

Because who knows better about milking government assistance than furries? Or at least that's the impression I got in the couple furry houses me husband and I have lived in the past. 1-2 people actually work while everyone else gets twice what the people working make by using government BS and exaggerated (or faked) disabilities.

I would appreciate you to not assume that every single person is faking or lying to get disability. Just because there are tons of people who ARE lying or faking, doesn't mean every single person does. I HATE that I can't work. I do, because I made a ton of more money when I was working. Twice as much as the disability

Thank you

Thanks

I would like to see you work a day after being run down by a car and having ribs, clavicals and pubic bone all broken, and to top it off find out you haver a crushed disc in your back pinching your sciatic nerve.

True me its not all sunshine and rainbows.

...And why would the working people in the house put up with that?

There's been all kinds of excuses. Mates, pets, 'friends' etc etc etc. It's all rather pathetic really. We've never stood for it and hence, moved from both places.

@GeckoGurl

Never accused you, I simply spoke to the logical point of asking the group of people who often milk the system and thus know what the system provides. =0

SSI is $710/mo. It just went up. Not sure what's offered on state levels though. I'm not sure what your disability is, but odds are you can still work. Try getting in touch with the state Vocational Rehabilitation department. They tend to be slow, but if you can work any kind of job at all, they'll help you get to work. They'll even fund a college education.

It' not impossible. You just need nine years, 73 surgeries, and a ton of money, and actually, the most important, the will to go through with all that in hopes you will actually become a functional human being at the end.

I still think you're lying about your disabilities and that you're simply abusing the systems so you two can live off the government and live w/e wild life you choose to live.

Wild life? really, people who get disability actually get less money than somebody working a 9-5 job. I myself am on SSI, and barely get enough money to pay bills and feed myself every month.

Depends on the person. Between SSI, unemployment and some other thing I had former room mates getting 3k a month, for several years running no less...

It's not just furries who do this. It's a common thing for people to milk the system regardless.

I guess it's similar there too then. Here it depends on your disibility. If you qualify for DLA (disability living allowance) You will be pout into one of three "bands" and depending on what band you get put it will determine how much you get. You get the most amount of money in band three. To be honest you can live on it piss easy and still buy yourself lots of goodies. It's probably why so many people swindle the system.

Ya, I do not want to be on disability forever if I can help it. Right now it isn't possible for me, but I'm hoping my doctors can get me on the right treatments and meds in the future. I would love to get back into vet tech work but that will require so much. It isn't an easy job even for a regular person. Thank you for letting me know that info!

What I am getting makes it very hard to be able to buy any "goodies". Most apartments run about $450 at the very cheapest, then utilities, car insurance, phone, gas, medications, doctor appointments, food, etc. It goes quick when you only get a little over $700.

@Randy-Darkshade : Oh trust me, I know good and well more people than furries do. I was simply commenting that the percentage of furries I've met that DO, do it is larger than the one I've met of those who don't.

@GeckoGurl : Depending on the area and agency you can get the state to pay the majority of your rent for you, if not the whole thing. It's rather easy to do in places like Fort Collins and Colorado Springs.

Actually, getting on the housing program that lets you live where you want to live is pretty shitty in the Springs. My fiance's sisters had to wait for over 4 or 5 years for their "turn" to come up, and we were only able to get ours in the "timely" manner of a year and a half because they held a lottery for new sign ups and my fiance was like #130 or something. I'm like #3500.

Colorado Springs has the worst waiting time for housing that I've heard of.

Also, looking at their site, they aren't even accepting new applications for housing. I think it's just because the line is so ridiculously backed up.
