I started playing through Red Alert again quite recently - strange how different it is from most RTSes now that I look at it, with the automatic popup buildings and sidebar replacing any concept of a 'builder' unit. And I'm not exactly good at this type of game, but victory seems largely determined by how many Medium Tanks you build.

But the best bit is the cheesy acting between the missions! Red Alert 2 turned it into a bit of a pantomime (with Vice President Off 24 and Large Man With Moustache From Wargames, both of whose names escape me at the moment).

RA2 is my second favourite out of all the games. I'd class Generals as my favourite (although most people didn't like it.)

There's nothing like playing as the tank general in Zero Hour and having emperor overlords trundling about the map.

Indeed. The tank general was fun, but if your going against someone like...the infantry general, your screwed. he can just pwn you with rockets backed up with rockets and even more rockets.

And if yu didn't like the acting, try Tiberian Sun. The acting there is the best, it makes the game that much more in depth. Expecially during the Nod compaign, you can feel the fundamentalism. lol

If anyone feels like going a round on any of them (except generals and CnC3, they defy the original gameplay of CnC), im availble to do so at anytime.

the original C&C was just that - original, although the concept of the strategy game was spearheaded, also by westwood studios, in the form of Dune 2

plus the cutscenes in the original C&C was a lot nicer than the following games... it was as if they just weren't trying as hard

then there were C&C RA 1 and 2... RA1 was ok, again, introduced some nice new elements and TANYA! (girly muhahahaha)

Tiberium Sun had some very sweet graphics and an ok nice storyline, with the possibility to take different storylines along the way... plus things like the mutant hijacker was born here, or the laser fence, god i loved that

Generals... generals was ok, but didn't really have any storyline to speak off - had some nice new game elements, with the hackers, the udnerground tunnels, and stuff like that

then there was C&C3... the final(?) chapter in the C&C saga - nice gameplay, although i got a bit tired of multiplayer zerg tactics with mammoth tanks.

i'd rather play Supreme Commander these days - has better music too

I liked C&C3, myself... granted, I pretty much liked every other C&C game along the way, whether by EA or Westwood. Hell, I even liked Renegade to an extent.

And obviously I'm now waiting for C&C: Kane's Wrath...

I really wish they stuck with the INI text based editing like all the previous games...now they use some retarded-ass XML format, and you have to compile it with some program that comes with the modding SDK to get it to work. My attempts getting my little tweaks to work ended up with funky AI (not building armor or aircraft)..

The last C&C game I played was Red Alert 2 and it was great fun. I loved the over the top, deliberate cheese in their cutscenes.

I mean, the intro! The intro!

And yet somehow... one wonders if real life diplomatic negotiations aren't that far removed. XD

It goes like this. If we're talking single-player mode, the hierarchy is:

Tiberian Sun > Red Alert 2 > Tiberian Dawn > Yuri's Revenge > Renegade > Red Alert > Generals > Tiberium Wars

Whereas in terms of multiplayer/CPU skirmish:

Yuri's Revenge > Tiberium Wars > Generals > Tiberian Sun > Red Alert 2 > Tiberian Dawn > Renegade = Red Alert

More succinctly put, Tiberian Sun is my favorite for single-player campaigns whereas Yuri's Revenge is my favorite for multiplayer.

It should be noted that All of C&C > Starcraft.

can;t argue with that logic, but i am a bit of a starcraft fan hehe. and i happen to be a fanatic of renegade :p

I have red alert 1-2 and tiberium wars

1 and 2 were awesome games both, i loved the cutscenes...pure classic. Gameplay was awesome too...and i still play RA2 online sometimes. When it comes to cnc3, it really doesn´t have the atmosphere from the previous games, sadly, but it´s still one impressive game and one of my all time favorites.

EDIT: thought i still might add that cnc games really are not very "strategic" games, online games usually end with one player flattening the other with a massive army of tanks. (ra1=mammoth tanks, ra2=prism tanks/apocs, cnc3=mammoth tanks). Anyways, they are strategic enough for me, never been a fan of games that actually require thinking...dragging box over sum units and clicking targets is good enough for me.

oh yes... renegade

damn i actually really liked that - would have been better if they'd taken a more classical approach to it, like with the medal of honor games, where you are made quite aware just how vulnerable you are without your teammates... instead of the oh so typical one-man-army thing

Woo~ definitely CnC fanlad for life. <3

Do far my favorites go from the CnC: Covert operations, to Red Alert 2 and then the last addition Tiberium Wars since it's online play is very easy. It's quite fun to play with five friends or so.

Anyway, back to Westwood. The original Westwood team (Now known as Petroglyph) released their new game Universe At War: Earth Assault.

+Can't wait for Kane's Wrath expansion for Tiberium Wars AND Sarcraft 2 to leak an alpha or beta or something.

Renegade was bad-arse for what it was. A C&C themed FPS.

As for rushing, I could rush people with Conscripts. They're starting to horde tanks (as they only have about 3-4 at the time) and a giant mob of Conscripts storm in. It was more efficient to run them over.

Sounds interesting, but the website is a perfect example of why companies SHOULDN'T make their pages in Flash. >.<

Also, I hope UaW:EA is alot better than Empire at War. The land battles in that game were disappointing.

This might be good news or bad news, depending on how you look at it... according to information from Game Informer, there's another C&C game in the works aside from the C&C3: Kane's Wrath expansion.

Apparently it's called Tiberium, and will be an FPS... it's also being described as a mix of GRAW, Battlefield and Rainbow Six. And (this is the bad part, by my book) you'll be playing as a GDI guy again. It's due out around the end of 2008.

lawl wut?

Ghost Recon was a more to-the-point Rainbow Six that kept it's 'realism' (Well GR1 did). GRAW and Rainbow Six doesn't fit together, total contraction on a strategy level.

Just quoting my source, really. I haven't heard any word of the game from other sources (not that I've checked), and of the games listed I've only played Battlefield anyway, so... *shrugs*
