you're definitely going in the right direction :D a frequent suggestion I give everyone who's more advanced is to remember to work with colors and color palettes a bit more closely. Don't just put down colors, work with a palette and make them all work together (like your african savanna background, that's a great one!). Also, shadows and highlights aren't just darker shades of the midtone! They actually have color too :) try working with a minimal color palette and see how it makes you think about shapes and values. It's a good exercise!
