Cumbrian Massacre.

Some of you may or may not have heard this already. Yesterday lunchtime a 52 year old cab driver went on a killing spree in WhiteHaven, Cumbria, UK. For some unknown reason this man took his shot gun, rifle and his car and drove around shooting random people. 12 people are confirmed dead, 25 injured 3 are in critical condition. The drama went on for about three hours before the mans body was found in a wooded area where he took his own life.

Full news report here: http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/uk/10216179.stm For the artical to make sense you need to scroll to the bottom of the page and work your way up through each timed event.

RIP those 12 who were killed in cold blood.

I'm glad he shot himself, because the ultra-soft justice system in this country would have kept the bastard alive for the rest of his life with our money.

I heard about this yesterday, it's awful. I feel really bad for the families of those who died and the people who were injured.

It's thought that it may have been over inheritance, he killed his twin brother the family solicitor, or over him thinking they were cutting his hours at work, he also killed a fellow taxi driver. But they're not sure, the rest seems to be random.

That is sickening, to think that somebody would go around doing that.

RIP the dead 12, and I hope the people in critical make it out okay.

I had a huge inkling you would be the first to reply in this thread, for some reason. lol

Is there some sort of psychic connection between us one wonders? I hope you're not yet another half-sibling of mine.

Going by what I heard on the news last night and how friends described him, I'd say he was the type to bottle up his problems rather than talk about them to get them off his chest. I would say he probably did this for a number of years before yesterday when whatever event acted as a catalyst to trigger his rampage. after three hours of rampaging I'd guess he started to "snap out" of it and realize what he had just done, realized the consequences, probably felt immense guilt and then took his own life in the woods.

The thing we will never know is, what the catalyst was that triggered him to go on this rampage.

Actually me and m,y half sister are led to believe we could have another half sibling somewhere.

I don't believe I am psychic at all, even though friends and relatives say I am. I just feel I pick up things far better than others.

The worst part...this was completely preventable. The National Post and CBC reports that the man's daughter took his guns away, and tried to turn him in to police before the shooting spree. They said, "Nope, not crazy enough." and let him go.

So the man tried to turn himself in at the local hospital, and they too turned him away. "Nope, not crazy enough."

So he went on a killing spree. :(

If I was a surviving victim, I'd sue the local constabulary and health service out of existence. The people that made this monumental blunder need to be caught, charged with accessory before the fact and incarcerated.

Many systems in the UK, seem to fail miserably.

what I don't understand is why it took the police three fucking hours to find the guy and when they did he was dead anyway! wtf were they doing for three hours? it wasn't a very large area to search especially with air support overhead. They say they had every armed officer in the area searching for him, how many was that, just two officers?

Don't believe the mask...
This is so sad. I'm speechless.

I can't believe it took them 3 hours to get to him.

I also can't imagine what it would be like to "snap out of it" after 3 hours of killing innocent people -- sons, daughters, mothers, fathers -- and realize what you've done. That sort of horror would be absolutely unbearable, I think.

I feel so sorry for the victim's families, and for the surviving victims as well (nobody's going to walk out of that one mentally unscathed).

It's a harsh thing to say but, good riddance. I was literally in the town he was about to come to.

He started in Whitehaven, went to Seascale, my friend gets locked down in Sellafield nuclear facility and is like "You know there's a fucking MADMAN with a sniper rifle on a killing spree!?" and by the look of what was happening, the rumour was true and he seemed to have our banks and places of high security a little nervous in Barrow in Furness. The thing that had me scared was that the only way TO get to the next largest town, was through my street. Luckily he didn't get that far.

I still don't understand why it took three hours for the cops to apprehend him (if you can even apprehend a dead a body) If they say they had every officer in the area tracking him down.

I don't think it would take American cops that long.

Lol, so much for banning guns in Britain.
Only leaves men like this one with weapons.

Guns were never banned, only specific types. There was an incident back in the 80's that made the government ban automatic and pump action guns and the dunblane massacre caused a ban on all hand guns.

Rifles and shotguns are still legal here but you need a licence to own one.

To obtain a licence here you need to fill in the application and then sit through an interview with a police officer and prove to the police the reasons you want to own a gun.

Quite easy if you can blag well.

Oh God, here we go.

EDIT: How often does this happen?
Seriously, giving the police guns will not solve anything. There's enough tension between the public and law as it is without firearms that can kill in seconds being involved. Should police start carrying guns around Cardiff on weekend nights? To football matches with thousands of people in one enclosed space?

Cases here end with the suspect actually caught instead of just murdered by the police.

Actually, I'd say this is the best possible way to hand out guns.
A drug addict or ASBO-yob isn't going to sit in front of a police officer. They're instantly removed from the possible legal gun owners list.

I just want to point out that not everyone who has received an ASBO is a yob.

What the fuck? The police in the UK don't have guns?

They don't need guns.

Harry Potter gave the Police Forces of Britain billy clubs that deflect bullets.

Standard patrol officers don't. They carry a baton and CS spray.

What we have are ARV's (Armed Response Vehicles) which have two officers on each car. Both have an MP5 and a glock 9mm. They also have performance cars capable of 150mph.

I forgot to add that the "day job" of an ARV, so to speak, is traffic duty.

So they couldn't just shoot the fucker before he took any more lives? That's fucked up, man.

Due to then fact he was running around with guns the police wouldn't allow standard un-armed officers anywhere near him. Only the ARV's were authorized to seek him out, which meant less officers in the search.

Wow....

So the standard officers couldn't do jack shit while that lunatic just ran around fucking gunning down innocent people.

If this happened in the US, that fucker would've been dead in a matter of minutes.
