Dark Souls

Hey, I just wonder if anyone played any of the "souls" series?

I couldn't play Demon's Souls yet, because theres no PC version, however I bought both of the dark souls games, and if anyone is up for some challange I can just them.

In case you haven't figured out, it's a HARD game. Well until your learn everything possible, and know the easy way to play. But that's what it's all about! You get dropped into the place of an undead in both games, whose fate is to eventually lose their minds and go hollow. You have to work yourself trough of various types of locations, with a variety of enemies, in order to break the curse of the undead.

The game itself is great, and the challange is really unique, just as unique as the multiplayer system. Imagine that every player's game is a different world. One can enter another world as a phantom, be it foe, or friend.

The only real problem if you are a PC user is that they have a poor port. If you are going to play this, then you should get a controller, unless you are like me, who doesn't care however difficult the controls are on a keyboard on mouse can be.

I had a great time with both Dark Souls games, if anyone is up for some challange then you must try it out.

If you already have played one of these games, I would want to ask: What was/were your most memorable moment(s)?

I couldn't really tell you all of them, because I had many, many cool moments. Such as the excitement/fear as you get invaded for the first time. Overcoming that one boss that was pissing me off so much, I was spending hours on trying. There would be a lot to talk to, but I wonder if anyone has something specific to talk of.

I made a dark souls 2 thread recently, should have looked a little harder for that X3.
also the dark souls 2 port is pretty good though a controller is kind of important for it.

both the souls games are really amazing though i don't really have much online experience with the first. but online with ds2 is really fun

Err must have missed it. Anyways GFWL used a p2p system for you to connect to others, and it was kind of really bad. If you wanted some online experience you had to wait hours, or go to a hotspot. I remember people calling me crazy for not playing it with a controller. It just takes a 5 mins to rebind the keys, then few hours to get used to it.

Nah, can't afford it right now. But I heard it's going to be a challange

The DLC makes me not even, I can't deal with it for some reason. Like, it makes me feel like I'm terrible, even though I've gotten Platinum on Dark Souls 1, and am working on Demon's Souls.

I'm liking the game quite a bit right now. It's my current pick for solo gaming on the 360 and I've sadly done all I can now besides beat some bosses heads in v.v

you should try to do multiplayer if you can on dark souls, it makes the series even funner for me when i have been doing it.

I play the console versions, but I still haven't played the second game yet.

Strength/faith build OP recks everything in pvp. Sometimes. Y'know that's not entirely true but it's pretty good lol.

I don't agree with paying for online server access, so that's out on my console.

It's all fun and games...
I play on the PS3. I have experience with all 3 games- I've finished 1 and 2 but I never completed Demon Souls. It is the weakest of the series in my opinion.

I'm really loving the Crown of the Old Iron King DLC. It is pretty, the enemy designs are fun, there's so many great weapons and items, and the bosses (except for one, which I'm sure those of you that have played it will know which one it is) are pretty fantastic. Reminds me a lot of the Artorias DLC from 1. It is much better than the Sunken King DLC and makes me expect great things from the upcoming Ivory King DLC.

Mostly I play it as "fashion souls". It really is the world's most difficult dress up simulator. Out of the five people in my apartment who play, I'm the one with the weakest skills so I tend to play less and stay away from pvp as much as possible. I know that a lot of people enjoy the pvp and get a lot out of it, but it just isn't my cup of tea. I have enough problems with the standard enemies, I don't need someone coming in and stabbing me in the back because of lag. I do enjoy summoning and being summoned though. Sun Bro forever!

Probably my favorite moment was in Dark Souls 1. I had the best luck and got the Black Knight Ultra Greatsword from an enemy drop. I was up against one of the little demon puppies and got off the perfect two handed heavy. The puppy went flying into the air and one more swing ended it. It was the coolest thing I have ever managed to pull off and so satisfying. I know that's a very personal thing and not really what you were asking for, but it was still pretty cool. For something a little more standard, that first moment in 1 where you see Lordran as the bird carries you over... absolutely breathtaking.

The iron king DLC is really amazing and there are some really nice small touches that make two of the bosses really awesome, one if you wear a certain set of armor immediatly causes him to go into stage two and has an alternate death animation. also pvp is pretty fun and generally at least in ds 2 most matches aren't that laggy unless your internet connection is shiet. If you really fear backstab wear jesters or gowers ring X3

Oh I know. I basically spoiled myself on the wiki the first day it came out. I think that it's really cool for them to do that. From Software is getting really good at adding little touches like that to their enemies. Like how some of the invaders in the DLC shrug after they kill you. Small touches make the most difference.

Sadly, it's almost always going to be laggy for me. Our connection is just pretty shitty. It'll even kick us offline randomly every so often. Total pain in my behind. So far my experiences with pvp haven't been that bad, but I still prefer to go without it. It's just not my thing. To each their own.

It's cause people don't bother to look through the first two pages of threads before making their own.

for a dark souls related thing here's a cool fanmade song about dark souls
There are some big story spoilers in the song so don't watch unless you played through the game fully

Yep, I wasn't thinking when I made this thread. I've just started using this forum when I started it

he's pretty easy since he's super slow and his attacks are all super straightforward. also the next area is super glitched and the enemies can't properly traverse it. take the area super slowly and it's amazingly easy. ofcourse if you went with the master key as your starting gift both the gaping dragon and the next area are completely skip-able

I played the first one before pewdiepie did and to be honest, i didn't like it. I never rage quitted at the game, i don't find it that hard. I just got extremely bored of the game really quickly i got as far as the return to the asylum and couldn't be bothered afterwards.

that's still pretty early, like that can be the 4th boss which is still super early in the game, on but yea the game can be very empty at times and it's a game where you aren't spoon fed the story and have to find it.

Aw, you should've stuck it out more at least until you got to Anor Londo. That place is amazing. And annoying.

it is amazing because it has one of the best integration of gameplay into story in pretty much all time. also there's a lot of optional places, so the game can get boring cause you can get sidetracked and do a whole lot of not much, like the aslyum and a whole bunch of the below undead burg if you have the masters key.

For anyone starting dark souls choose the master key as your starting gift as it's by far the best one.

Sorry a good RPG game should have a good amount of story. I got very quickly bored with the minimalist story and repetitive game play, as much as i like a challenge in my games i perfer a form of strategy in mine not just full action. Like pokemon with its advance learning curve in competitive battling and breeding.

A lot of the story and lore is hidden from you, and I wish they had been more forward about that. You could only get info from the items you obtained and a few npcs. I think the game aims to make you feel lost and forlorn while you play just like all the undead are depicted. I can see how that doesn't appeal to a lot of people.
