Do you go to local fur meets? If so, what have your experiences been like?

Just curious. Me, I have still to find any I can get to*

But for those who do go: How did you find them? Do you drive, and have a car to get to them, or take some other means of transit? What do you do at them? And what are they like?

Any funny, sad, happy, trying, exasperating, fulfilling experiences and anecdotes welcome; I have no idea what a smaller meet would be like...been to a small con, but that was maybe 1,000 furs, and nothing that happens regularly.

(*Which has been and may continue to be the topic of many a thread, b/c I can't drive)

I went to a local meetup for the first time earlier this year. I was looking for cons or meetups on Twitter and found the organizer's tweet with a link to the details. I didn't know anyone and I was going alone so I was a bit nervous about driving an hour to get there. There were about 30 people, I guess and those in-suit were mostly talking and the rest of us were playing video games and chatting. It was fun and I'd go again. Also got my first hug from a suiter

One of the first I went to a guy dined and dashed and I was the only one who had enough to cover his damn bill. I stopped going to meets at restaurants/bars/cafes unless I got there early to order and pay before anyone else.

Other then that there's been drama and fights. Seriously it's wild af. I stopped going for a few years, opting instead to hangout with furry friends who were cool.

Edit: I live in a really big college town so meets are sorta common. It's just, they suck. I have made some epic friends but it's sooooo much easier to just spend time with them instead of a scheduled meet.

I don't go to any local fur meets.. mainly because I don't know about any xd.. partly cuz i don't do research and partly because i just haven't seen any around.. if i knew of any nearby I'd probably go. If anyone knows of any around the portland Oregon area that'd be appreciated~

I used to do furmeets, back in the longago times when my anxiety was mostly limited to intense fear of public speaking. The way things worked in those cases, the meets were organized through forums (one Swedish forum that we set up a small group to go see Over the Hedge in theater together, one Danish forum that set up some more hang-outy meets).

There's pretty good public transit in both cases, so I'd just catch a train where I needed to be going. I hear this is less of the case overseas, though. ;)

It's a good way to socialize and meet people, overall.

Don't know of any in my area yet, and I'm kind of expecting I'll have to drive at least two hours each way to get to one. Kind of in a situation where I drive too much to want to drive extra just to meet people.

Literally the closest I've gotten to a furmeet was witnessing a couple of fursuiters at a gaming convention - I had a little interaction with one of the ones with a partial suit but that's roughly it.

Found my local furmeet online. It takes me about an hour to get there taking the bus to the railway station to get to London then a few stops along on the tube.
To drive up there I would have to allow two hours as at least half of that would be sat in traffic.

The meets are great and take place about once every three weeks. Plenty of people to chat to as typically over 150 people attend each meet. There are a good number that suit so many fluffy hugs. There is no charge to attend and the meets start at 12 noon and go on to 7 pm, although afterwards quite a few go on to take over some of the local pubs for some food, drink and a chat.

Geez, some of you furs are lucky...they look like a lotta fun; wish I had a way to make it to something like that.

I'm still not sure why we have no meets, around here :(

I keep looking; if anyone knows of any in Baltimore or DC, lemme know...I feel like it'd be a lotta fun, as I'm very outgoing, and get to feeling very cooped up. Main problem: I can't drive...and mass transit comes nowhere close to anything, around here. :(

Full of drama from beginning to end, in my experience. Seriously. Any I've tried to carpool to have fallen apart. Someone said she would drive me to a meet for $20 in gas money, then "forgot" to mention until right before that she lived in a city an hour from mine and expected me to pay for an uber/bus fare to get there. Ridiculous, not only because the costs add up, but also because my house was basically on her way to the meetup.

Then when I've actually been to meetups(I tried volunteering with the local furcon staff), it's been the spitting image of toxic furries. You see enough furs being mean to each other and showing minors porn that you leave, then check your messages the next day and the drama's followed you.

I think it's a regional thing, honestly. But dang I'd like to hang out with more likeminded furries irl :(

The local meets in Edinburgh are quite low-key affairs; relaxed social meets in a pub basement on a Saturday once a month, and non suiting. I missed the last couple, but it's usually nice to see people and chat. There's a fair bit of gaming chat that passes me by, but it's a varied enough group of people that I can get talking to people about stuff that does interest me. There are usually a few sitting and drawing as well. Then there's an annual summer barbecue, too.
What there aren't many of in Scotland are suiting events, and some of the local furs will occasionally travel down South for those.

One of the joys of the UK being so small - the two major cities in my region are about 16 miles away either side of my hometown and each have regular meets! I can drive or the train is even cheap enough to consider.

Look for ride shares, if you were in my area ride shares are pretty common but that's because a lot of furs are spread out.

Yeah, Imma go on Telegram, and see if I can use my wiles and charms, such as they are, to see if anyone might be in for this. I mean, I'll pay for gas, snacks, provide witty conversation and what not; hopefully something will pan out!
