Do you separate your SFW & FET/NSFW art?

hi everyone!

I really need some advice or thoughts on this matter as it's been bothering me for a while. I am not the best at wording so I apologized if I word something wrong or just awkwardly!

I have no idea how to word this but I draw both SFW & NSFW/Fetish art and I'm wondering if I should separate them on different accounts. Some of my friends follow my ART accounts, and while this is perfectly fine and they support me, I don't want to stress them out (some parents like to creep), or even be judged for what I'm posting.

Some NSFW pieces are "tasteful" (unsure if the best wording) but some are more odd fetishes (at the request of commissioners/users).

I'm not saying they would judge (hello anxiety) however my online presence on some sites I've spent years crafting. I wouldn't mind sharing my NSFW with people if they asked but outright I worry I may be scaring away people who just are not into some things being posted.

I have no idea if I made sense here but this is bothering me heavily and I just don't know what to do.

If you want to respect those who are not interested in NSFW themes, then by all means go ahead! I'm sure they will appreciate you for it!
I personally don't have the patience to juggle multiple accounts and don't care what other people think. XD

Do these friends have FA accounts and if so, have they enabled the viewing of Mature and/or Adult content? Both of these are off by default when signing up for a mainsite account, and guests cannot see anything that isn't General.

If they're not faving NSFW material, they may not be in a position to see such images you've uploaded, let alone know they exist on your account, assuming you've placed appropriate ratings on them.

If you know they are viewing such material, (say, by mature/adult entries appearing in their fave galleries) then an alternative account may be viable, although there is still the risk that they may recognize your nsfw uploads by art style alone.

I post on a bunch of sites (to try and promote my art) like DeviantArt, Instagram and such. Some of my close friends, who also do art, follow me on those platforms. I'm not sure why I'm all torn up about this. I know my friends, well one friend really who knows/follows my art, does not judge but I feel bad because she lives with her parents and if they saw anything NSFW they'd freak on her (she is 25 but her parents suck).

I'm torn between I don't care if people judge and also not wanting to be judged tbh? Some of the fetish art I personally have no interest in but people requested it and I thought why not? Edit: I'm also trying to figure out the best site for SFW / NSFW art. I'm also not entirely sure how to work this site yet in regards to posting art but I'm hoping to learn!

Hmmm it really depends on what you're trying to accomplish. If you want a professional account (especially if you plan to do art for a career) than you'd definitely need 2 separate accounts. I'm an animation major so I'm in the same boat as you, let's just say I keep the two sides FAR away from each other. I've got an FA and a Twitter account for each that I post art on.

Now, this depends on what NSFW/fetish art you make, but I personally recommend keeping them separate. I've been doing fetish art and stories (TF mostly, and it's all SFW but still fetish geared) and let's just say that profile sometimes attracts people I don't want prowling around my normal account. (Especially after the one time I opened requests lol) If you're doing NSFW requests it's a good idea to have a separate identity. That can stick with you years later (I've heard this from others, I'm too small time to experience it myself lol).

Now, if you don't plan on making art on a professional level or offering it on a mass scale, it's probably fine to keep them in one spot. I do struggle to keep them both updated and it's certainly a hassle. Especially if you're mostly small time. But with my SFW stuff I'm trying to attract a separate fanbase than with my NSFW one so I keep them apart. My brother is a furry artist as well, and started branching off into fetish content. He initially had one art account that had a variety of content. But now all he does is content for one branch fetish niche, as he's gotten pretty popular within that group. So now he's kind of stuck.

Omg honestly I'm just starting out trying to build my clientele but I feel like I don't even have a place to be 'professional'.... I think the split of SFW/NSFW can be a very different topic than professional/personal, though they are intertwined. Managing several accounts as an artist IS super hard, but I think it becomes necessary as you grow.

When it comes to fetish work, THAT may need to be separated from 'professional' work that may be NSFW, while 'professional' work that is SFW may ALSO need to be separated from 'unprofessional' work that is STILL SFW. Do you get my jive here? For me I prefer to keep fetish work strictly between me and the client, though that stops my potential for growth in that niche. I might want to take a page from Japanese artists and make a new account for every interest I grow.

While I've gotten mixed responses from artists who I've commissioned about my fetish, and whether it should be considered "NSFW" or not. They've all said that it's quite tame compared to other fetishes that exist. Be that it may, I just mark it as NSFW anyways. I know that not everyone would agree, nor would they like to see it. I just do my part and mark what I think is NSFW to be NSFW. ^^;

That way when people have the "NSFW" setting on FA set to "SFW ONLY", they won't see it. They'll only see my SFW stuff~ :3

As others have said it depends on what route you're aiming to go.
If you keep the two types together you could run into problems if you're trying to be a professional artist.
But if you want to go full free-lance or if you just draw in your free time I'd say you probably don't need to separate the two types.

Also consider how much of each you plan to draw. If you're only going to put out one SFW or NSFW pic in a month or two it might not be worth having a separate account.

Personally I don't separate the two, one reason being I have extremely little NSFW. Too much of a pain and can't be bothered to have another account for the same characters.

I usually put my NSFW in scraps. They also have their own NSFW folder in my gallery, but viewers would have to view my gallery to see what few NSFW projects I get. I dislike having porn on my account in a visible manner next to regular art pieces, but also dislike managing multiple accounts, so it feels like a fair compromise to me. The fans stay for the art and occasionally get a sexy bonus that they might not have been expecting. What's not to like?

If you're concerned about people being scared away or uncomfortable, then:
1) Big respect. I wish more artists were so mindful instead of forcing odd fetishes upon everyone without warning or mature tag,
2) Separate account seems like the best way to go, since you say you already have online presence, with "non-controversial" materials as far as I understand. This way those of your watchers who want to follow you there have such option, and those who aren't interested can stay away.

Personally I have no need for separate accounts as my art is 75% (mild) NSFW anyway. Instead I made a designated SFW folder for those who might wish to focus on just that.
