Do you talk to animals, your pets ect.

Just wondering if anyone other than me talks to their pets like a person.
I know i do, sometimes without thinking about it.

I know they can't respond in the conversational sense but they do seem to understand quite a bit.
Even if it is body posture and scent ques, it's communication. Not every language is verbal as we all
know.

I've talked to my dogs many many times, unable to respond directly they usually react quite amazingly to one's
emotional state when talking. In turn i have learned quite a few animal ques when they want something, from wanting
to go out to cuddle. It's amazing really if you think about it, a form of communication that is technically a language.

Cats and other pets seem to be very alike, I've even had pet rats who seemed to react well to conversation.

So, do you think your pet understands you?
Do you talk to your pet as a Pet or a Person?

Don't be too worried about it, I think every pet owner does it; I do a lot. I do it because sometimes they are the only creature around to talk to and sometimes I feel like they are the only thing that understands.
I also think your animals understand you some what but they probably don't know what you are saying but know you are speaking to them. My cats meow to me when I speak to them.

I've always talked to my pets. Sometimes like a person, but more often with cutesy talk. Although I'm not sure how much they understand, they do seem to like it.

I have a cocker spaniel named Chip who I talk to all the time, it's usually just unintelligible baby talk though because he's such a cutie wutie :-D

Whenever I've accidently stepped on his tail I've instinctively stopped and said "sorry Chip" without thinking about it, so maybe I subconsciously think of him as another person.

I talk to my cats with a normal voice. No need to make weird high pitched sounds, now.

Of course! Well my cat talks to me so it would be rude not to reciprocate. She knows her name for sure and knows when I am sorry for treading on her paw/tail - speak nicely and she stops lashing her tail and comes over to try again. She makes a really cool 'greeting' meow sound when I come in from work - she even gets out of bed to say that.

Since I just watched this I'd be worried if my mini dachshund actually talked back.

But otherwise, I just like to goof off with them, like so:

Me: TELL ME ABOUT BANE! WHY DOES HE WEAR THE MASK!?

Dachshund: ._.

I talk to my dog, who usually just sits there and makes faces at me. I talk to my chickens, who cluck agreeably and never have their own opinions, and I talk to my parrot, who is very disagreeable and makes fun of me.

Bitch I sing to my dogs! Get on my level, scrub! >:V
You mean you aren't having philosophical debates about the meaning of life and your purpose in the world with your pets? You aren't telling them off and being told off by your views on certain controversial topics with them so as to invoke a better understanding of the world around you? What are you, some kind of pleb?

He sings about Tailmon until he collapses and his dogs lick the tears from his face.

Since I've lost many pets before, I always tell my kitten that I love him, every time I leave the room he's in.

I have three pits, I talk to them CONSTANTLY. I don't really have anyone else in my life so they are my sounding board.

Great responses, wasn't expecting this many posts.
It seems pets get talked to alot, and it's ok that they don't talk back.
It's like having a confidant who won't share your pain told to them, someone who keeps by you even when you ache.
A lot of people won't do that one, they just say "That Sucks" and move on.

Dogs easier to talk to.. They seem receptive and respond to your words appropriately. No wonder they're commonly used for psychiatric therapy.

From what i have read, they help people with autism.
Giving them someone who can understand without words at times, and a friend who stays even when it gets really hard and frustrating
