Eastern Block times...

In theory maybe gives you everything, but in practice

Practical achievements depend on those who stands behind them.

Soviet Union, like the entire Eastern bloc, was very unlucky with the quality of political elites after Stalin's death, but it has nothing to do with socialism shortcomings, rotten elites can ruin any system.

When you are using 95% of your gdp for nukes, Migs, and bunkers, there wasnt much left for the people.

Uh-uh, they don't
Sure they do. Plenty of people around the world believe in our propaganda and think life in the USA is all steak dinners and rainbows. Couldnt be farther from the truth. Yeah, we ARE free, as long as we pay our taxes and conform. But I also know that our people are domonized by what our government does, because they believe we the people actually tell our government what to do. WE THE PEOPLE have no say whatsover.

Thats the truth. The rich rule this country. We have people called lobbyist. They basically go and bribe our "representatives" into voting the way they want them to. Legal bribery is all it is.

Power corrupts. And the more power people have, the higher the chances of them abusing it becomes inevitable. Granted, some people are above corruption, but they are very few and far in between.

Even if you had good non-corruptable leaders in a Socialist country, it would collapse eventually, both economically and socially due to a lack of motivation, lack of will to innovate, lack of wanting to get a high-paying job, +++.

Socially, there are no incentives to get a high-paying job let alone innovate new things because you will get a lot of your income taken from you and your innovations/ideas given to the public. Why get a good job when you most likely will be taxed heavily to pay for someone's livelihood who may not even deserve it in the first place? Just get on welfare and live decently on someone else's bill.

Economically it will die. Be it 5 years, 10 years, or several decades. Economic failure due to social decline is inevitable with such a system.

Well it'll be hard to enslave people for the elites, look at 19th century, post napoleonic europe, there were elites and the poors again, and it has ended with Spring of Nations

I can assure you, I know a ton of people both around the world and in my own country/region who dislike USA quite a lot. It's mostly a matter of interventionism - many folks see USA as "that one bully country that constantly messes with stuff in other nations". There's even a popular foreign term for that, "Winged democracy" (which basically means "bombing the hell out of place while pretending to do something benevolent"). There's also a good South Park episode that portrays the international dislike for America pretty well - in short terms, it's about American kids taking a flight into foreign country and suddenly getting to know the there's not many fans of America there, putting it lightly. Sure, USA was something of an made-up utopia for foreign folks back in 60s-80s or so, but now, after all the wars, interventions and screwed up political situations, America isn't in a good place when it comes to public perception.

If you had read my post you would see I totally agree with you. But what I am saying is your hatred for the American people for what our government does is stupid. You all act like the people here actually have any say in what our government does. That's the kicker, we dont have a say. Period. Everyone believes the same crap about us, that we are free, that we control our politicians, that our vote counts. If my government wants more money, they tax us, the normal poor folks, and give the rich tax breaks. Pay up or go to prison, with fines so astronomical you would never in a lifetime pay it off. My government goes to war, it can draft me and send my ass to wherever they want. If I say no, prison. There is a reason more people are imprisoned here per capita than anywhere else on the planet. Think about it.

The American Dream isn't really living a good life, doing things, taking care of yourself, enjoying life. Pensions. Insurance. Blah blah blah. Its about making enough money so you can pay your taxes, so the IRS doesnt come in to take your things and throw you in prison.

Quite a few of us here in the states understand this. Many of those here that don't understand this, flatly refuse to learn this fact. Living in ignorance is less stressful, I suppose, than carrying that knowledge. Yes, this country, this government, is effectively controlled by the manipulations of our wealthiest 2% of the population. That group is gaining wealth and power very rapidly these days. Many of us have become or are becoming a poor serf-class; kept in line by propaganda on TV and other media, prescription drugs galore, and cheap alcohol.

My opinion.
