Bless your heart, but I agree with Mungo that just making videos begging people to stop hating on furries will bring out all of the sharks who'll smell easy blood in the water.

Instead, I'd say, focus on making content that persuasively shuts down myths and misconceptions about furries; that humanizes furries and shows that we're people like everybody else; and that highlights the cool, creative, fun, admirable, powerful, and profitable aspects of the fandom.

I find that one of the best ways to shut down trolls and haters is through humor, and, sometimes, through social shaming and turning people's own hypocrisies, flaws, or stated beliefs and values back on them. The best way to respond to people who are merely misinformed or ignorant is through compassion, gentle humor, patience, solid data, good arguments, and compelling personal stories.

Good advice. I once messed with a bunch of furry haters that had the whole "crusader" thing going on by spamming their subreddit with medieval artwork of Saint Christopher (who was commonly depicted as an anthropomorphic dog), anthro rabbits, and the lamb fursona of Jesus.

Unfortunately, that approach can plant the idea in peoples' minds that furries are hated. Although I've witnessed furry hatred in real life, it's pretty rare. Mostly limited to internet trolls.

This reminds me of a time in high school when a well-meaning teacher got on the intercom and told everybody to "be nice to the band". Apparently, somebody somewhere didn't like us. Who knew? I was heavily involved with our school's music program, and never once felt any kind of antipathy for it. In fact, that's the only time when the thought crossed my mind that somebody somewhere might have genuinely disliked us. I was occasionally bullied for other things, but never for playing an instrument. Possibly because I could have bonked them over the head with said instrument, but still.

Eh, there’s stuff like KF out there still.
Though I still thin I saw more anti-furry stuff in like the 00s and early 10s.

Most of the "anti furry" sentiment online is because the fandom is a trendy thing to hate, especially for teens and young adults who have absolutely nothing going for them in life so they become Internet "bullies." Furries just happen to be an easy target for them. There's nothing they can actually DO other than be online pests.

(Well, I'll say this for whatever it's worth): in that whilst the hate comments are unfortunate to read, and that Furry hate can be a problem in some places (I agree with you there in both areas)..... in all honesty also my friend - there's an old saying also that goes something like: "if you don't want to attract any bees, don't put out honey". ☺

And so, by making a video specifically criticizing that one particular group - in an off-handed way it kind of invited those very people to chime in to it at that point; and in a way, it's probably not a surprise given they did so (given the nature of how the internet is).

But..... if you created a video (on the other hand) that highlighted what you think are the so-called "positives" in the community..... and then posted something *like that* instead - then those haters would probably have no place at that point, and then blocking and removing them (like the user said above) would be wise.

And so creating something that highlights the positives - may be a better way to talk about the community with others out there at large who may at least be willing to listen to what you have to say about it.

But if you criticize people openly - then it's probably only fair also that they respond to it...... and so, it's something to keep in mind in the future perhaps...... and perhaps just focus your energies on those out there that are more receptive to this Fandom only.

And just ignore those haters...... as you're probably not going to change very much of their minds anyway.

I don't know, convincing someone who is aggressively-negative from the start is obviously a waste of time. You need to spend your time creating good things that bring joy and pleasure. Just block ill-mannered and aggressive users, instead of trying to convince them.
Some people just need to turn their mouth into a trash can, there is no need to interfere with them, and try to establish communication, if you don't want to wash your skin of slops later.

Listen, the best thing you can do is just remove comments and block people. This hobby and community is extremely unorthodox and making hate go away is impossible. If we can't do it for literal racists, sexist, etc individuals IRL you will never be able to stop online hate from people able to hide behind their screens. Don't waste your breath, just remove them and keep a good mental and positive attitude

I dotn think youre going to ba able to end hate on furries like that. We thought we had moved past ending hate towards gay people but allready that has turned around backwards and people are accusing gays of grooming just like in the 1970s. The mainstream will always hate people who are different. they want answers for why their life in the system feels so bad so they take to blaming others not like them. Especially people with different lifestyles. Furries are seriously stuck in those crosshairs. I used to get brutally trolled on DA monthly and people even made up kiwifarms pages on me. The key thing though was that i ignored them and kept doing what i do,. the furry community is your community and space. Dont let the outside community shake you too hard, bat away the flies. and keep your freinds close. Furries may have a lot of drama, but we are all in this together so be patient with your allies. which i know can be trying haha.

I agree with rufe-squirrel, with addition that a lot of furries are loud and genuinely cringy - and people from the outside will immediately associate you with them. You just need to be mentally ready for it.

You were feeding the trolls. As soon as you post videos about "Stop doing this" most of the time you get people who tend to say "I hate X". Presume that there is always a demographic that purposely likely to harrass. If they start saying vitriol. Just report them.

I think everyone is allowed to have their own opinion. If their opinion is one I don't agree with, then I ignore them. At least, that's how I do things

Depends on the opinion.

I can honor and respect "I'm just not into cartoons," I don't care for fursuits," or "The furry fandom doesn't interest me, personally."

When people start slandering or maligning the fandom or the people in it, or joking about hurting or killing furries, that's not just a matter of "agree to disagree"---but, even so, sometimes it is smart to ignore such people.
