ATM Rick and Morty. Though its fandom is becoming really irritating. I guess I didn't get the universe were it wasn't so.

Ooh, I have a lot. I like Futurama, even episodes I've seen a lot are still good. Also, the humor in Futurama can be really smart. I also like Steven Universe and Rick and Morty.

Western ones? As far as adult-oriented shows go, Rick & Morty for being a piece of improv art and BoJack Horseman for fixing everything wrong with Family Guy, or any FG-inspired series for that matter. As for "kiddy" ones, then Hey, Arnold! for being surprisingly mature in best possible way - it explores themes like domestic abuse, loneliness, unwanted love and midlife crisis, but never forces any "edginess" and maintains laid-back, realistic tone, respecting its viewers and letting them think for themselves. I would go as far as to say thay "Hey, Arnold!" is a lot more adult than majority of actual "adult-oriented" shows out there.

1. Originates from the US
2. No on-screen deaths, despite there being a "war"
3. No gore/blood
4. Aimed at a younger audience in the US
5. The US is notorious when it comes to censoring media

It has the same artstyle as an Anime, but that's it.

^ This is what they show to kids in Japan, and a lot more. Fight me.
I responded more or less jokingly, but whatevs, the arguments you make are still kind of silly. By far not every anime originates from Japan, and by far not every anime is a pornographic bloodfest with aim at older audience (in fact, the dominating genre of anime, at least in Asia, is "kodomo anime", which literally translates as "children's cartoons"). Inclusion of Another (a seinen anime, i.e. "aimed at mature audience") and Madoka Magica (a deconstruction written by horror novelist to comment on stuff they show to kids in Japan) in your "children anime" list is a bit weird to say the least. And again, as aforementioned video explained in great details, anime isn't a particular genre or classification, but rather the certain way people make animation, with tons of subtle details or blurred lines - and according by those subtle details and blurred lines, Avatar may be easily considered an American-produced shounen anime.

How many cartoons do we see aimed at older audiences? They are few and far between. When it comes to Anime there's a plethora of them, ranging from cooking to horror. As for the "pornographic bloodfest" thing: No, I agree. Not every Anime is that, far from it. There are a decent amount of series with very little blood/gore and/or death in it, if at all. But, unlike cartoons, Anime series doesn't shy away from it. If you intend to make a story with death in it, especially a war of some sort, blood/gore is kinda required. It's like saying "oh, we have this world-scale war going on but no one actually dies". To me, a war without casualties makes no sense.

War is hella ugly. Murder is hella ugly. Death can be hella ugly. This is what I would say makes the clear distinction between a cartoon and an Anime: Anime doesn't shy away from depicting someone's death, even if it's fictional.

The lines are blurred for a lot of people. Personally I make clear definitions/distinctions and go from there. If they don't fit the definitions/distinctions made they are something else.

Let's keep the thread on track and not devolve it into a needless argument about semantics. If you two would like to debate the meanings of the words 'cartoon' and 'anime', please open a thread dedicated to that, or to conversation messages.

I was SUPER disappointed that the push for the SWAT Kats reboot stalled out.

I was in the Kickstarter actually.

And yeah, it was disappointing, but I did get a kickass box of goodies from the team.

.....I'm jealous. I wanted to help fund the Kickstarter too, but at the time I didn't have any spare cash.
