Favorite Character in All of Fiction

I am again appalled by the lack of Lost fans on this website.

LOST is probably my favorite TV show. Kinda made me sad when it ended, then again, it made me sad when they kept killing characters off, especially the ending when they all were dead. Charlie's death was the saddest of them all I guess, especially with that music in the background. I haven't watched all the seasons or every episode, but I watched enough to become aware of it. I wanna buy the whole season disc collection just to have all the episodes on hand and watch it again. My favorite characters would have to be Charlie, Jack, Locke, Sawyer, and maybe Hugo.

I never finished that series. It got too preachy for my tastes. One can only stand so many Ayn Rand-style sermons from the protagonists. I think it's Mr. Goodkind's obscenely brute-force attempt to make fantasy into literature, but it sort of flunks when the rest of the series is more or less torture porn.

Alright, there we go! Charlie's death was definitely the saddest (that music they always play is heart-wrenching). I haven't seen it for a while, so I'll probably start a re-watch soon. And both of y'all forgot to mention Locke.

Uhhh.... let me think. I guess I got up to book 9? Which was when it first came out, so back when I was in late high school (the period in time when I actually liked high fantasy). I remember the rhetoric really picking up once the South invaded (whatever they were called) and started laying waste to the entire universe. I just remember it was so blunt and simple-minded from that point on... this army that goes around committing every possible atrocity that Goodkind could think of, all written in glorious detail so that the reader is left without an inkling of an iota of a hint that they might possibly be humans with at least one redeeming quality to them, and then proceeds to have the main characters explain in great detail why what this wretched army of the damned was doing was wrong. It was the literary equivalent of the author punching you repeatedly you in the face and then screaming at you, "It hurts to get punched, doesn't it?!" So I stopped reading.
I mean, don't get me wrong... some parts were good. I liked how he dealt with prophecy (wherein the main character doesn't bother trying to fulfill it, against everyone's wishes, because he knows it's a fucking prophecy and will get fulfilled no matter what he does). But some of it was just really stupid.

And yeah... leather-clad bondage women with magical torture sticks. Richard spends something like 400 pages in the second or third book with them. Gee whiz, Mr. Goodkind.

If that was his intent, then he failed pretty fucking hard core when every plot hole is covered up by "magic" and his characters are all dumber than boxes of shit.

Also, Zedd only exists to be a walking encyclopedia.

I only read the first book, and everything about it was awful. Awful awful awful.

First book as well then, because that's where I found that. It was awful on so many levels.

And it really didn't even need to happen, which was the worst part! Richard finds out something stupid about himself after spending a third of the book getting tortured because FUCK YOU THAT'S WHY!

dude you should read the series. because it will make your head SPIN with irony and laughter. its the only way i could push my way through 4,000 some pages of really bad, occasionally good writing.

When reading the OP, I immediately had one man in mind and even though you guys had a few good characters in your lists, nothing has changed my mind.

So in the spirit of choosing my single favorite character in all of fiction, I choose Guy Montag from Fahrenheit 451. A man that makes a life changing discovery of the intellect.

In general, that book is amazing! I might have to purchase it again since my copy is well used.

Yes, Lapidus is great! He doesn't have a huge role, but he's a great character. You can still watch it! Rent the discs from the library or something.
