Favorite Mario Game?

So what's everyone's favorite game featuring the famous stout plumber. I would like to hear your opinions on main games as well as the spin offs such as Mario Kart, Mario Party etc. Also please feel free to talk about your favorite levels, characters, and moments.

Personally I like Sunshine and 64 the best although I have been recently been playing Super Mario 3D World and it is fantastic thus far!

So I'm looking forward to reading all of your comments.

Super Mario Galaxy is my favorite main series game, although I'm not really as big a fan of it as I am with Mario Kart. I like it mostly for its stellar soundtrack.
Mario Kart 8 is easily my favorite Mario game overall. You can tell a lot of love was put into all the little details of that game, every course is fun and memorable.

Did you ever beat the first one Batty Kreuger? I never could, until they released it for the Virtual Console for 3DS and at point they allowed you to create save states so I technically cheated. =/

I've never played any of the Paper Mario games so I'm not sure what they were like. What did you enjoy about them Imperial Impact?

I have been playing galaxy but I also have never finished that one either. I just have a hard time grasping the concept of Mario in Space. I understand that it adds fantastic new components to game-play but space as a setting just sort of seemed like jumping the shark. Aside from that, its starting to get interesting.

As in, beat Bowser at the end? Yep. But I never got all the Stars.

Super Mario RPG legend of the 7 stars C: followed by Mario sunshine.

6150 rpm and spinning.
SMB3 is still the best Mario game, it was all downhill from there. Though I did enjoy Sunshine quite a bit.

Shadow Jaeger

Supermario world 2 the 6 golden coins had to be mine, super mario galaxy i really enjoyed too. Mario 64 (ds due to my age) was really good too

Wow it seems like the consensus leans more toward the original mario games. That's actually really interesting to me. While I've played the originals up through mario world I've never played mario land or mario land 2. I've also never played rpg. How do they compare?

Super Mario World introduced me to the franchise and got me addicted. As for all-time favorite game I have to go with a tie between the first two Paper Mario titles.

So many to choose from, how can you just one?

Well, for me "Super Mario 64" showed just how fantastic the third dimension could be, if executed properly. A common urban legend is that Disney would use the ballroom scene from "Beauty and the Beast" to show prospective employees what they were capable of with regards to animation, but to me, Mario 64 could have just easily been used in like manner to show Nintendo employees what their company could do in regards to designing a game. The controls were spot-on, the camera had so many custom adjustments that you could always see the action in front of you, and the entire experience was a confirmation that Nintendo knew the alchemical secret of making fabulous 3D games. And if there were any mistakes, Nintendo corrected them in time for Ocarina of Time two years later.

That said, the original Super Mario Bros and any of the NES and SNES games with the mustachioed plumber also achieved iconic status and they too, are serious contenders for best games of all time. But 1996's Mario 64 is the template for so many late-90s 3d platformers and it's not very hard to see why.

It is hard for me to choose. I still love Mario World 3... but I like the new ones a lot too. Mario 3D World is fun... so are the New Super Mario Bros for the Wii and WiiU and 3DS.

Also, Mario Kart. I love me some Mario Kart.

Pretty much the only games I play are Mario games... and Donkey Kong (sister just bought the new one yesterday).

Mario Kart 8 is easily my favorite Mario game overall. You can tell a lot of love was put into all the little details of that game, every course is fun and memorable.
I can hardly wait for the two expansions to come out. I pre-ordered them. New tracks. Yaaay! :D

Did you ever beat the first one Batty Kreuger?
Oh man. I remember when I was like 5 or 6 or something (mid 80s)... the game was new. My uncle called the house at like 2am in excitement to tell us that he finally beat it. We were like "That is great... but don't wake us up again."

Super Mario RPG. It's a classic and was one of my first few RPGs played that wasn't tabletop.

Super Mario World is definitely my top. I remember how blown away I was when I first played it. Big world, levels revisitable, and alternate exits. I didn't really get into Sunshine, and the NSMB games felt... soulless. Galaxy surely holds high, with its varying gravity platforming, and that soundtrack. As far as spinoffs go, Mario Kart and the Mario Party games from the N64 are definitely where it's at.

Paper Mario and Paper Mario: The Thousand Year Door are easily my favorite titles. There's just an irresistible charm to those RPGs that keeps bringing me back to them.

Super Mario World is my favorite title in the core Mario games (also the first video game I ever played).

64, obviously.

I did play World 1 and 2 growing up as well, but that one was just freaking magical. I was like 6 when I played it, and I was quite obsessed with it. Probably what began my love of platformers in the first place (or did I always gravitate to them and play Mario 64 for this reason?) Apparently I was scared of Bowser though, and my dad had to do the fights with Bowser, but I don't remember this.

That was back in the days before you looked up a walkthrough online, so we never actually got all the stars for many years. The last one was the second one you got from the slide on the ground floor of the castle for coming in under a certain time. Totally by accident. I remember I used to have dreams about unlocking that cannon. Although the end was a little anti-climactic given how long we worked at it for and how excited we were. But then again... what could be done that wasn't anti-climactic?

And who could forget MARIO?

Point of advice: I hate you.

By far, Mario & Luigi: Bowser's Inside Story is the best. Super Mario Bros. 3 was close for taking the first place, though.
