Favourite spice

Which spice do you most enjoy using?

My favourite is cardamom. I love its fragrance, the cute little pods it comes in and its versatility. I have been making sweet cardomom breads quite regularly recently,

I'm a big fan of spices. The most versatile for me: black pepper and Bird's eye chili. I also really like turmeric, allspice, pink and other pepper peas.
Badian - drink tea with him and cook soup.
Zira - add to tea and pilaf.
Cardamom - add tea and use it when cooking dumplings.
Bay leaf is damn good in soups, I also add it when cooking meat, dumplings and tea.
Cloves - added to tea, also used in a mixture with tobacco to smoke.
Cinnamon is for tea and sometimes pancakes.

I love spices, you can list them for a long time. They're all good.

I wasn't much for spices, salt and pepper maybe garlic powder etc, until I moved back home with a brother who was a professional chef.. now I'm eating things I've never heard of, I do like Ranch dressing on pizza though *fight me* LOL

Trying new things is great. But sometimes the simplest dishes with salt and pepper are no less delicious. Speaking of pizza. When I cook it, I make a sauce from a mixture of tomato paste, a few spices, and sometimes ketchup. No one complained - the dough was delicious and not dry.

Paprika.

Not because I've actually ever tasted it but because it was a character on Blue's Clues.

If you've ever eaten chilli con carne you've tasted paprika.

The spice I use most for pizza is oregano.

Saffron is the most brilliant thing ever and whoever discovered its use as a spice should be sainted. I love both sweet breads/pies/cakes/foo and savory dishes made with saffron, though it’s not a spice I’d do any great measure of improvisation with. It’s a shame paella is typically made with shellfish, because that means the only way I’m getting it is if I cook my own.

Other than that, I’m pretty big on garlic and parsley. Hardly anything (savory) that won’t benefit from adding those. Boyfriend isn’t as sold on the parsley, though, so I have to use it in some semblance of moderation.

Saffron buns is something England and Sweden have in common. When I arrived in the US, finding saffron was one of the first things I did lol.
I visited like 2 Indian shops and repeatedly tried to contact the only halal store in town before finally finding it in a grocery.

I have not.

I'm not a big spice person.

There are two main types of paprika. Sweet and hot.

You would probably enjoy sweet paprika. Mushroom stroganoff, goulash, paella, etc all use it.

It goes well on french fries too.

Eh, I'm a lady of simple tastes. Salt, ketchup and sugar/brown sugar are about as far as I go.

I usually combine Thyme with black pepper with salt and some onions...

To me that just makes an enticing spice combo...

Probably wasabi. Finally got used to it from my girlfriend's cooking.
You should get her to play wasabi roulette with you and maybe a few friends: have her cook some finger food but put wasabi in just one of them (a lot if she's feeling evil) and then have her mix them up and then everyone takes one and see who ends up getting the wasabi.

There is a restaurant in Japan that does that and if you get the wasabi you "die" and are then dressed/painted up like a ghost.

That would actually be a fun party game, so thanks for that.

Might leave out dress-up, though, lol.
