What happened to you that caused you to get interested in the furry fandom? I know that what got me into it was a little bit of yiffy material, that lead to google searches, that lead here because of the mature artwork, and tada! But really, i've been into furries for like forever. From the starfox characters, to Lucario from pokemon, ive always loved em. In about 3rd grade, i started playing this thing my friends and I called fists of fire. It was me and my friends going thru the universe as humans, but in big battles we would turn into furries of an aimal of our choosing. I became a dragon furry, and my friends became a Falcon and turtle furries. It was the only thing I did during recess. Anyways, whats your story??

My story is ironic.

I had no idea what furries were, then one day, at age 14 I read the web page of some dude I only knew from an internet simulation.

It was one of your usual "furries are sick they need to die blah blah blah" posts. Like 6 pages long too. And he never specified what a furry was. At that point I assumed he just mispelled "fury" and was talking of violent porn.

So I went on IRC, and asked people "Heyz guyz, what's a furry?". Everyone was like "OMGZ u don't wanna know". After a long discussion ranging from "Huh, yeah, I do want to know, out of sheer curiosity" and "Well you'll regret it but if you really want, google it". So I did.

My first reaction was "is that it? That's nothing".

A few weeks later I realized furry porn turned me on. A lot.

Months later I realized it actually had always been that was from as far back as I can remember, but I previously didn't have a word for it and assimilated my affinity to anthropomorphic animals to a simple nostalgy of childhood (which is inaccurate since I've had those feelings before even knowing what nostalgy felt like at all).

At 16 I knew I was one and it killed me to think of it.

And finally at 17 I started drawing it, then accepted it, and now here I am. Dunno what's next.

Ridiculous how all that is just a matter of sexuality again. On the bright side I'm past killing myself over it.

SL I think was the first time I really found out that it wasn't just me (I had suspected it but never knew what to look for). By then I already had a shitload of scalie art done and my 'fursona' worked out, but it was the people on there who introduced me to all this.

Some of my friends in college (not furries) were friends with a guy who is a huge furry...so, when he came to visit, they called me and told me they thought I should meet him because they thought I'd like him. xD As soon as he showed me furry stuff (a couple of comics, some are, vids on youtube) I was definitely hooked.

well I have always liked anthropomorphism of animals I grew up watching stuff like: the fox and the hound, robinhood, balto and loonie toons. and I always thought that it would be fun to be a anthro and I did do some RP. then when looking through the internet one day I found the furry fandom. and I said "this looks cool" so I started to draw and associate my self with the fandom. now I am 100% a furry.

I had been drawing cartoon animal characters long before I was aware of a fandom centered around them, and was only vaguely aware of the term "furry" (and to a lesser extent, 'anthropomorphic) as it pertained to a class of 'adults only' comics listed in the back of some Antarctic Press comic books my brother collected.

Around the time I first got Internet access at home, I 'AltaVista-ed' (this was before Google) the term "anthropomorphic", and discovered a collection of personal websites belonging to artists in the genre, and well...

"gee, a ready-made audience for the stuff I draw..."

That's pretty much it (although I still don't self-identify as "furry")

I always drew animals, often anthropomorphic in some ways (but always more animal than human). I wasn't into anthro cartoons much, and didn't (and still don't) play video games- my interest in drawing such characters came from my love of real animals as a kid. I used to read any book or magazine about animals I could get my hands on, had a number of pets, played with stuffed animals nonstop, and spent my days catching insects/frogs/turtles/fish/etc.
I had a DeviantArt account, and kept seeing cool anthropomorphic art when I was browsing animal art. From there I figured out a better idea of what this mysterious "furry" was, wanted to learn more, did some google searching, and so on. Anthro art doesn't "turn me on" in any way beyond the intense emotional reaction that any art can give me.

They thought that? Did they have doubts about you being one? :p

Also, honestly, I wonder how furry one has to be to qualify as a "huge furry". o_O

This is pretty much my first experience, but I was in /b/, checking out a furry thread because I liked the starting picture. Go figure.

I was always into animals and anthros. I drew cat people when i was little cause I couldn't draw people >.<

and I always imagined the Beatles in my head as dog anthros :D

Paul is a german shepard, john is a collie, ringo is an english sheepdog and george is a german shorthair pointer.

Then just this year I found furry, through youtube and the fursuits. and i thought, "DUDE. that is PIMP."

and I decided hell, I guess I'm a furry. cool.

then I made a raccoon fursuit and I was happy THE END :D

Actually, it was probably my Mom and my Grandpa that made me a furry.
My Mom loves the classic Loony Toons cartoons and used to watch it with me when I was but a little pup. My Grandpa also loves cartoons, his favorite being Wile E. Coyote. If that's not a formula for breeding a furry then I don't know what is. Anyway, 5th grade is when I started really drawing and my first character was a bunny and a rather unlucky one at that. I did all kinds of horrible things to him like being hit by falling satellites/meteors/ballistic missiles, abducted by aliens, and yada yada. My drawing style evolved and some how I became fixated on foxes. I think it may have something to do with the fact that I had 5 dogs. And from there it didn't take long for me to discover the furry fandom on the internet.

"toxic and negative"
Heh, I love these stories.

I first found that I really enjoyed the Sonic the Hedgehog games, and my favourite character was Knuckles. Then Shadow came out, and he was great too, so I crossed em. But, I had a special place in my heart for Tails. He was cute. (not in a romantic way back then.)

I found yiff when I was searching for something random (can't remember what it was, but it was tame) and it came up with a pic from Fuzzwolf's site. I found that art was great. Then I found DBruin, then Kaa Bakensobek, then Adam Wan.. . I was hooked. My RL friends don't know I'm a furry though... nor do they know that I'm bi (which I discovered through the furry fandom). It's not really taken very well down here... :?

Slayn

bang your head.
first furry sighting was when I saw that make fun of on youtube dick in a box from snl but the characters where in furry suits. so nothing happened

Then a few years later I was looking up a website for saving wolves when I came across a small quiz at the bottom asking what furry are you so I took the quiz and later I looked up what it was and there was the yiff and like all the others I had a fap moment so started to really get into it and write stories by now I was 12 and the next year I told all my friends I was a furry after we bought dipping dot from a stand in a mall I said it out loud my friend henry turned and said I had taken randomness to a whole new level and tried to give me a high five and then I told him I was dead serious and there was an akward silence and then they all said ok and went back to there dipping dots.
