The argument was still essentially "can't make them feel bad but they can make you feel bad because you have rank," even if unintentional. I'm not going to comment further on it, since I don't wanna be super duper negative.

i'd argue that sarcasm is something you can detect in text. the question i asked was pretty hyperbolic in nature. context clues are also relevant.
