Wow, I'm in shock. I don't use discord, and it was the only place for me where I could easily communicate with those I don't know.
Forums are good because no one is rushing you to answer the last message. Chats are energy-consuming.
I do not know of any forum that makes a profit, they are simply not created for this.

I am discouraged and sad. It was interesting to read opinions and give art. I know that I will not communicate with anyone outside of the forums. I do not regret that I recognized you and communicated with you. I understand that the decision to close the FAF is final. Probably saying goodbye?

It will not impact FA, no.

Forum maintenance, licensing costs, and general server upkeep pull resources from the main site. Part of our goals for FA 2023 is to continue making improvements, refinements, and to focus on the main site. While the forums may be a small, several hours of tech time dedicated to the forums a month could be working to implement new features on the main site, and we had to make a call.

We tried to keep many of the Discord features somewhat in parity with the forums. We understand this won't be a 1:1 replacement but we didn't want to close one door without opening another, so we tried to come to a good compromise.

I'm not sure how the selling and hiring Black Market threads would translate on Discord. I've seen several commission-related channels on that platform and they look chaotic with many users failing to recieve exposure for their posts because of the instant messaging nature of Discord.
Forums are outdated, yes, but hiring threads worked perfectly and sellers could keep their shop threads updated all in one place.

guys I don't think, respectfully btw, that you have completely thought through the effects and damage shutting the site down will do... Im sorry but thats just facts... so many of us don't use discord you'll be lucky to have a community and it'll be small if you do

Guess I won't be seeing you on the forum replacing Discord server as I don't have Discord and I will never get Discord.

What happens to those of us furries who cannot access Discord? are we thrown out of the community and lose our friends just because other people have restricted discord?
I'd be confused at why Discord isn't accessible, but I don't think anyone is being thrown out of the community by the forum closure. Exchange information.

Some of us don't have Discord and probably don't intend on getting Discord like me for example.

I mean I would argue that this place is better suited for main site support. Unlike a discord server you don’t need to join to get information. And unlike twitter posts made don’t get lost in a feed of other posts. This is an easy way to ask a question, look up pst questions, and find support from users and staff about issues regarding the main site or to provide input from a wider range of users. While I would also support the making of a discord because it is expanding the brand.

Unless there is another issue regarding the deletion of this site, such as use of resources or some other issue I cannot understand because I don’t work behind the scenes.

@Dragoneer i understand that things change, life goes on, things improve, situations change. I would be greatly saddened by the deletion of these forums, you have provided a great community that honestly.. this site is the reason I became a furry. I would watch porn on the main site, but here on your forums I found community I found bone. I wouldn’t have gotten that through discord. Hell I only got discord because of this site! It is ultimately your choice as you are owner, and I will understand if the ultimate decision is to delete the forums. But I think you made something great here, something that isn’t so easily repeatable. If this is the end, thank you for making, maintaining, and supporting this site, it has meant so much to me while it was here and honestly made my life a better place. Thank you.

FA will be FA? We're not changing the main site in any way, nor do we have intention on opening a subreddit.

I understand this is frustrating but our goals are to focus on the main site and make vast improvements. Just handling the automated spam that hits the forum alone can be a lot (and costly, too, as we subscribe to an automated service that removes most of forum spam).

I hope that the forums remain up in a readonly state permanently, or otherwise have archived access in some format, even off-site. The primary advantage of forums over Discord are that it's on-site, does not require or rely on Discord to permit whatever content may get posted, and has far better search (and search indexing across the web). Discord search is not very good for a lot of things, and there's a definite lack of "permanence" to it since they have zero means of log exporting, etc. Yes, there are tools for it, but they're third party and are not something a casual user will have.

All that said, I understand the decision from a usage / cost / etc. standpoint. Honestly I'll be more active on a Discord server than a forum in this era (my forum-heavy days are long-since passed, kind of proving the provided reasoning), but I definitely know that these forums will be missed. I wish the best of luck to the staff when it comes to moderation and the other work that comes from maintaining a public Discord server, and hope people can migrate and continue having good conversations and fun that the forums have to offer.

This makes me sad. I've made really good friends here, and knowing the place will be closed is upsetting. But yeah, forums are of an era gone by, so I understand.

Thank you for everything. I enjoyed spending the last 5 years here =)

I'll be seeing you guys on discord for sure.

Cheers.

People are pissed, that's fair, but at least we're getting a heads-up. They could have just yanked the FAF down, leaving a message saying, sorry it wasn't working out, bye. Start sending out some DMs, ask your friends for their socials, emails etc. there really isn't any need to loose touch with anyone over this, FAF was just another method of communication after all.
