I personally anticipated the fund factor to be one of the last factor to be concerned of, due to the 'suspiciously wealthy' trait of the furry fandom itself. Such 'suspiciously wealthy' had been observed by myself several times from place to place, not limited to FAF, hence I really didn't expect this as a factor when the FAF shall go down. The reason as a whole might contain else factors but I'm not questioning those.
What I assumed to be more likely was the atmosphere of the FAF--half, if not most, of the forums had already (and obviously) turned into art auctions--which I believe is not the primary intention of FAF...
Anyways, 17 years, wow! Well done for past and present devs to have this place running for that long, sending my respect.
I'm glad at least this place is not completely gone, as FAF is the only place I'm comfortable to show myself up to chat. (Because FAF is the only place I feel settled to best, and the anonymous crowd toast me for being a furry, typical.) At the same time I understand things oughta change when time comes, and I'll be looking forward to see the new door!

it's not like i actually post anymore, though i've still been lurking every few days. Truth be told, i haven't been paying attention too much to forum users for quite a while so i don't know many people here now. i moved on to Discord and one-on-one communique. i suppose i'll miss FAF but this isn't the first time it's gone down. Message boards and forums don't work the way they used to anymore and everybody has moved on from niche community servers to the massive "social media networks" sites. it's kind of a shame. i miss the early days of the internet and into the early 00s when the internet was still a NET. it's not even worth investing in a dot-com anymore unless it's a direct link to your Twitter or YouTube account or something.
Oh well. it was fun while it lasted.

Yeah, I know forums as a whole are going the way of the dodo, but this was a good place to find new artists, shoot the breeze, and find out what's going on when the main site hiccups. Discord is meh, social media can't really offer the community experience a forum does. I hope there's a way to save the forum, but I 'get' it. Don't like it. But I get it.

Speaking for myself, I do not like discord. It moves too quickly to keep track of conversations, it doesn't do individual threads very well at all, and if I turn it on, since I'm a member of many discords, I either get bombarded constantly with notifications - which makes me want to reply to them all for fear of seeming rude - or else I have to spend far too much time administering which channels are blocked and which are not. It's also not ideal for posting long responses, which I'm fairly prone to.
Discord is good for what it's designed for - live chat - but it isn't much use for what I personally enjoy about forums - being able to dip in occasionally without feeling pressured to contribute.

It's sad to hear that. I really loved the community which built here. Discord rarely can replace that, since it reduces comminication to a more superficial level.

If anyone is looking for an alternative furry forum, there is this one. I've been on it for about 2 years now and it's likely been around for longer, and although I don't use it often, it works similarly, if not somewhat better, than the FurAffinity forums. It's a good place to go if you'd like to replicate the feel and function of these forums.

I have an account on that...had one for years now...and literally only got 2 messages. They were dead with no updates on most threads for months on end. Gave up after a while so haven't been seeing current traffic. Has that changed?

If you're looking for similarity to Fur Affinity forums, look up a place called FurryPile. It's damn near identical, though it's practically dead. Still, upon this place shutting down, those who wish for some sort of revival could use it as a refuge. Beware that the place is hardly moderated, though, as even the site owners aren't around anymore. It's just a sister site to this one floating in limbo, but there are a small handful of people who do use it.

This is a shame.. Public Discord servers are so loud and crowded.. Very uncomfortable. Forums feel so organized and peaceful, I can show up or be inactive wherever I want here. It'll be sad to see this go, and all the history here

I think I have you on discord- I am active there in 1-to-1 discussions but not really any servers. I will beep you there. I keep my twitter almost entirely inactive because the US visa board requests and monitors visa holders' twitter handles, and I don't want them to see a bunch of strange furry stuff when they check in on me. ;3

The mods there were nuking threads for no good reason & got immature when called out. I gave up on furry forums as you had proud assholes who can't engage or It being active but no one actually reply without ignoring others worse than Discord. Hell Sofurry forums managed to be worse where people where temp banned a lot because they couldn't engage with being short fused, It the area where a mod had a grudge cause I went PS4 > Xbone?.
