There's no sub-parties in primaries. If people on the left got involved and started booting out conservative Dems in the primaries the way the Tea Party got involved in their primaries and started driving them off the crazy cliff then maybe we could make some progress for a change.

I agree- I consider myself independent. There never is anyone from the independent party that ever wins. I find this sad.
Well I (mostly) agree with you that the budget (665 billion which is more than any other country) is a bit much, the people that run the government are what need the cut backs.
15,000 dollar toilet seats and 10,000 dollar staplers. The whole system is a mess. When they start cutting back the budget my husband and the rest of the people in the military will have their benefits slashed and pay slashed. We are fortunate to live on what we have. We live well below the poverty line. Cuts need to be made all over not just in the military budget.

Ben Nelson? Joseph Liebermann? Most southern democrats in the Senate? It should register. It's a pretty common phenomenon.
I would say that most of the party officeholders fall to the right of their voting constituencies on social issues, and especially economic issues. Progressives were PISSED when Obama compromised to allow Bush's tax cuts to continue.

The Dems don't have the ideological lock-step of the Reps. Really, the Democratic party is more like a coalition of moderates and moderate conservatives with moderate liberal leadership. Conservative Dems like Max Baucus and Ben Nelson did more damage to the health care bill than Republicans ever did, because they stripped away support from within the party. But it is military spending that's out of control. Wages are low because the point of military spending is not to benefit soldiers, but to transfer vast sums of money to the military industrial complex for shit like laser planes. That's what needs to be cut, but Reps pretend military spending is all soldier benefits and body armor and you damn well better not touch it if you don't hate the troops and America too.

Body armor my ass- my husband ended up having to buy his own "battle rattle" because they "slashed" the funding to give him what he needs. There needs to be contracting laws that are put in place that make the government choose the contractor with the LOWEST offer.
EDIT: He is not even deployed nor will be for some time but they made him buy it stating it was required. Well if it was required then it should be SIE (standard issue equipment) not making him pay the person they buy the shit from.

Obama was not in a bind. He had absolutely no political capital to lose by letting the tax cuts expire. It was not a compromise on his part... he genuinely ascribes to a center-right economic belief system.
And as for military spending...
great use of money right there. I'm sure our hypothetical enemies are trembling in their boots.

There supposedly coming out with a summer edition of the ABU, though as soon as DADT is repealed im sure it will just be hot pants. If they cant give him armor he should have just gotten a waiver, i doubt they made him by battle rattle especially since the stuff in the states is the shitty BDU stuff they use for excercises.

I find it sad really. Most of them don't even know why we have problems they just want them fixed without any regard as to how hard it is to do that.
Granted a lot of shit sucks but we do have it better than some countries. For those of them that are old enough, if they don't like it here why stay here? Why not immigrate to another country. I admit there are a lot of things that need changing in our government but no one realizes the time and legalities of it all to change something simple.
I pray for the day things that need to be done get done but for the mean time I will support my government though I may disagree with it at times and generally just be satisfied with it all. If they want to slash PBS then fine because no one really uses it like they used to and that extra funding can be put elsewhere where it is more likely to make a dent in affecting something- schools, after hours education for needy kids, food programs ect.
